I think it was in an American Sonic Advance 2 official guide, but I can't find the scanned page anywhere. Does anybody remember about this, and have the scan handy?
A hedgehog skeleton? Looking for something.

Some time ago, I remember reading some of your typical "did you know/fun facts" that mentioned how some level was removed from Sonic 2 (or some other game) and it featured a hedgehog skeleton as an enemy, or something like that.
I think it was in an American Sonic Advance 2 official guide, but I can't find the scanned page anywhere. Does anybody remember about this, and have the scan handy?

One of the Sonic titles was to have a boss that featured a hedgehog with a flaming skull but Sega nixed it because "you don't show Sonic's skeleton."
I think that's a load of bull, because in Sonic CD, they showed Sonic's skeleton at Metallic Madness when he gets zapped with the shrink ray.

You have to remember, Sonic CD wasn't made by Sonic Team. Sonic Team were probably the ones who decided not to use it.

Plus there's a difference between Cartoon Electric Shock Skeleton flashing onscreen for a few frames, and Dead Hedgehog Skeleton being constantly around a level.

Wow, so it was indeed a boss? I think we might have just got more info about the Rock Zone...
Remember how that level was intended to be in the past? I just found out about some official (yet very goofy) Sonic manga that was released in 1992 to promote Sonic 2 and, well, just take a look at this.
The female hedgehog in there is coincidentially called Amy, and there's also a Charmy Bee in the characters staff at the end (remember this was released in 1992!). Also, caveman Robotnik seems to have the ability to turn the characters into stone, making them look just like that certain lost sprite that appears in Sonic 1, 2 & 3. How suspicious, huh?
I'm thinking the guy who made that comic knew a lot of those scrapped ideas...

After viewing those pictures, I think we have more information about the "skeleton" boss and the Rock Zone, in some ways. As was said before, maybe the skeleton was the boss of Genocide City Zone? It would certainly fit with the theme.

A lost sprite from all three games?! Could you post a comparison pic please?

A stupid mistake to make, yes, but maybe the "skeleton" boss was just the metal sonic ?
EDIT: Pre-final metal sonic, as in looked very different.

Hmm. For some reason, I can't help but think of Skull Man...
For all we know though, they could have heard that from the net.

The only thing that I can think of that doesn't fit in a Sonic game is the ghosts in Sandopolis. And having some kind of skeleton would be worse.
There are no proof. And those manga pages are absolutely no proof. It's the same as that poster with Sonic and Tails in some Oil Ocean look alike level that everyone thought would be Genocide City.

That article is very badly worded indeed, but it certainly seems talking about Sonic's skeleton rather than a Skeleton boss, as shown in the quote at the end.
Possibly a flame-based boss would have been able to set Sonic on fire, featuring a cartoony "burning-down-to-the-skeleton"-type hit animation, but the idea was scrapped due to the reasons stated?
..I dunno. That whole article confuses me, in its' wording - the quote and the actual rest of it contradict each other. Was it a hedgehog with a flaming skeleton, or was Sonic's skeleton to be shown (as when electrocuted/burned to a crisp) at some point in a boss? I think this point needs clarification before we can get anything useful out of this.

...Except that the developers got the Amy and Charmy Bee ideas from this manga for future characters. It's very possible this guy didn't make up all these things by himself, he might have got many of these "past" things from other development sketches and stuff.
But this is just random speculation anyway, I just thought this could be a possible answer to that "hedgehog skeleton boss" statement.

Eh... No, it wouldn't fit a mechanical city at all. :o
