Good day everyone i thought id write about "some news" about a feature in the original Sa 1 & 2 that few people had the chance to experience.
Anyone who has played the Dreamcast versions of these games will have noticed an "Internet" option in the bottom of the main menu, this would lead to a website with a whole bunch of things to do.
My background is from the Dreamcast online community and one of the projects iv been involved is in the revival of these websites so everyone can enjoy them!
But your thinking "wait the Sonic Adventure games only supported the modem and not the broadband adapter, i don't have dial up!" fret not the Dc community has a solution which i will talk about at the bottom.
Huge props to Dan and Jial on Dreampipe.net for being the key components on bringing back these sites as they did almost all the work

    Sonic Adventure's Website
Sa1's site allowed/ can do now these things
-Compete in World Rankings for the best times, score, rings in levels
-Download Dlc like new courses for the Twinkle Park Circuit among other things
    -Have rankings for Dlc
-Have a Chao Daycare system to share your Chao all over the world
-Upload you Chao times with the Chao rankings
-Fun Room contains the Black Market and a Chao Doctor
    -Hints
    -Boards
To use these features simply make an account on http://bb.dreampipe.net/ and your good to go
Here is some footage of these things in action NOTE: not recorded in Vga so it looks like crap

    Sonic Adventure 2 Website
Sa2 site in some ways had more stuff and in other ways it had less
-Online Black Market (Partially Online Again)
-One of the Few Dreamcast games to feature Dlc that was not on the disk
    -Chao Daycare
    -Hints
    -Send Omochao questions
-The scrapped Online rankings although you can still access the menu with codebreaker

    Video of it in action

If you want to view these sites on your browser you can head here (keep in mind some stuff will only work on the dreamcast and sa1 will look messed up due to most of the images are on the disk)
    http://sonic2.dreampipe.net/
    (New link sonic1.dreampipe.net)
    http://sonic.dreampipe.net/www.goodcowfilms.com/farm/games/sonic.games.dreamcast.com/updates.html

You can also do this via a emulator if you want if you play the game normaly, use a browser that supports the BBA and go to this address sonic1.dreampipe.net and upload your times, chao ect via that way

    How to connect
The best way to connect is with a 'Dream Pi" a program that will take any Dial Up signal and convert it to Highspeed internet or Wifi it will also enable you to play all of the Dreamcast games online like Chu Chu Rocket and Phantasy Star Online
    More info here http://www.dreamcastlive.net/connection-guide.html
You can also use a real dial up connection or Pc-dc connection if you input this dns in you Dreamcast browser

Really cool stuff, been following you guys for a while and appreciate the effort you put into all this. I'll be sure to try it when I get a DreamPi set up. I'm also interested in the PSO server - never played PSO back in the day and happy to know I can still experience it with fellow Dreamcast players.

I also hope the missing SA1 DLCs are found eventually and we crack their format to recreate them as SADX mods :specialed:

Wow, I never knew about these being revived as well... Somebody please move this topic to the correct subforum, where non-fangamers can see it?

Sorry about that, at the time this was more of a fan project to revive the features so i thought it was appropriate to put it here. My apologies

This is really awesome stuff. Forgive me for asking a dumb question (that might already be answered elsewhere on the linked site, which I've not jumped into yet) but would this still work in Emulators like Demul? I have fond memories of trying to compete in that Reebok challenge as a kid, I would love to give it a go again just for a laugh.

Wow, amazing work. Out of interest, is the Japanese version of the Sonic Adventure site back up?

Hmmm don't think so. As far as i know there is no emulator out there that supports modem emulation, BBA yes but not modem. But in theory you could still get it to work. You could play the game ect normally but then use a BBA browser (like planet web 3.0 (don't use it its buggy) or xdp) and simply log into the site form their by manually imputing the url of the site. as the site can be accessed by any browser but will look ugly as most of the site images are located on the disk and the uploading feature only works on DC browsers. so id say yes it could work, just a little extra work. Though i Dreampi is only around 40 bucks if you make it yourself and gives you access to the 16 (soon to be 17) games that are online right now. Hope to see you aboard!

As far as i know the Japanese site was not archived like the western one. Though i could make the recommendation to add the Japanese dlc and events if you want

That's too bad. The Japanese one had some nice renders of Mr Know-it-all.

I actually made back-ups of the Japanese SA & Sonic Shuffle sites on CD, but they won't open now! Losing the Japanese Sonic Shuffle site is a shame, as it had extra story info. :/

@Scarred Sun Thanks! It's even better now than back in the day, as it works with Google Translate!

You wouldn't happen to have the Japanese Sonic Shuffle site, would you? That was a bit of a special case, as it had a website, but it wasn't actually accessed in game.

Just as a little status update, the auto redirection of SA2 has been mostly fixed, simply hit the L Trigger and hit go to home PG and it should work. The direct link is still being worked on as it the updates to SA1
