Hey, remember that thing called "Sonic Megamix"? I kinda do :|
This is sort of a renege of my "no talk" policy, maybe. I don't know
Anyway, I've been promoting my patreon lately, and as I disclosed Megamix as one of my for-free fan side-projects in the description, it's brought a little attention back to the game in general. People have expressed interest, asked for release dates, etc. In response, I decided to attempt a presentation in preparation for handling patron updates for anything I do. This includes a (silent) video and a long, descriptive blog post that explains it
(Be sure to read the blog post!)
Some key points-
- The changes from the earlier versions have bred what are now effectively two games: "Sonic 1 Megamix" (everything v4.0b and below) and "Sonic Megamix" (the "new levels" version with a ton more new content, officially shown only in video). The differences were vast enough to justify separation, and preserve "Sonic 1 Megamix" as a sort of "bonus" thing
- I show off some tech aspects of my test process, and at the same time, display a little more of the new Sunny Shores than could be seen in the previously-released video ("Never Cancelled")
- I display and explain what currently exists of a total engine rebuild, intended to replace the current version for better performance that will hopefully lead to some neat stuff
- I announce that, in response to my current patrons being Sonic fans and the requests regarding Sonic Megamix, that I will start by bugfixing and releasing a standalone version of "Sonic 1 Megamix" (not Sonic Megamix), which will essentially be an updated/upgraded version of what was called "v4.0b". "Sonic Megamix" content is still very in-progress and needs to wait for later release
That's just the gist, though, so, please head on over to the blog post for full details. Share it if you like, as well as this tweet for twitter users
This doesn't mean constant, super-detailed updates or anything, but I might consider discussing it more in the future. "Sonic Megamix" relies on more people than just me, and is still a good way from completion
