The song they posted would be good if it didn't reek of autotune.

Just hope the big budget helps the game look better. The animation to the trailer video looks perfect for the game, but everything about the game's visuals looks pretty bad. :\

Like others have said, the 3D world makes this look kinda bad. The 2D art just doesn't fit in with it, besides that something about the 3D worlds just looks kinda off. I'd be all over this if the game looked like the music video.

I feel like I'm a few in the minority that loves the 2D style with 3D, the 2D reminds me of 90's nick.

I find the 2D to look fantastic, but it looks awkward when placed next to the 3D environment. Maybe they could tweak that up a bit by using Cel shaders.

Also if they could do that trick A Link Between Worlds did for top-view-ish issues. From how it is now, it's way too hard trying to see those sprites/drawings from that angle, and makes them really obscured. Meanwhile, ALBW did this..

And it came out like this..

So I think they should try to do a similar thing to that. The current look just isn't pulling it off so well, I feel.

They should have just made it look like the original but either with 3D rendering or HD sprites and keep the visual style.

I think they should have just done a 2D HD isometric look, but they're reasoning for the 3D map and 2D characters makes sense. It will look different, but I'm not saying it's gonna look bad just yet. I'm all for innovative graphics.

2D graphics on a 3D world has been done before, and far better as well. See the Paper Mario games.

I think TimmiT is mixing "I like Paper Mario so thats what they should go with" and assuming they aren't doing the design on purpose. They said they wanted the characters to look like it was ripped out of a 90s comicbook and 3D backgrounds. Thats exactly what it looks like.

though I would have preferred if they went all 2D.

I don't think they meant it as in "we want everything to look paper thin against the 3D backgrounds".

Looks like someone clipped comic book paper and put it in the 3D background, I'm pretty sure thats what they wanted. Hey, we are having Greg on the podcast next week. I'll ask him what he mean't.

Dude's been designing games for 25 years, I'm pretty sure he mean't to make it look the way it looks... your argument is terrible.

Wow, the Kickstarter has already reached over $123,000 with 28 days still to go (that's an increase of about $100,000 in 24 hours)! Don't think they're going to have any problems reaching the $400,000 goal. Nice to see the franchise is still so popular.

I was saying that 2D drawings on 3D platforms can be done well and used Paper Mario as an example of it being done well, not how it should be done. In that game the 2D drawings look like they belong in the world, rather than looking like two completely different styles that don't mesh well. Which in my opinion is the problem with the new Toejam and Earl's visual style. I hope that it'll improve, but the way the 3D world is stylized in early trailers doesn't give me much hope.
