Yeah Sonic 4 being a supposed Direct Sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I read somewhere that this was the case.

What happens when Sonic 4 Episode 1 comes out? Where is Tails and Knuckles? If its a sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles and they are your 3 established controllable characters why suddenly are they dropped off the map for Sonic 4 Episode 1?

Another thing which doesnt make sense to me (and annoyed me back in the 90's and still does now when I fire up a Genesis Sonic game) is that when you become Super Sonic you cant transform back to normal without losing your rings. Why does that make any sense? He can transform into Super Sonic but the Emeralds don't have the power to assist him in Transforming BACK to Normal? really? But they have the power to help Robotnik destroy the Universe!

The glaze in Sonic's eyes are the protective spray that protects against grit and dust. It was stated in the manual for Sonic Adventure.

Not really! Your'e right though, Sonic isn't really built for speed. Same as for Mario- how can he jump so high when he'd be about 15 stone in real life?

Where the hell does it say that? I just flicked through the US and EU manuals and can't see anything of the sort.

It never says that in any manual. He said "Not really!" at the bottom of his post to indicate that he was simply jesting. Even without the "Not really!" at the end, you should have realized that it's fake. I mean, glaze in Sonic's eyes that are the protective spray that protects against grit and dust? That would be incredibly weird. That would be nice to have as an extra protective measure though. I can imagine a fly slamming into Sonic's eyes at the speed of sound. Ouch.

When someone is super-powered up they'd be overflowing with energy [ie. too much power], so I guess that excess energy needs to be used up - much like a reactor.

Thinking about it, 'Hyper' Sonic sounds a bit like Super Sonic on drugs (because he's 'hyper' :p) - that would also explain the multiple colours coming from him too! lol

With the whole "why isn't the moon half blown-up?" thing, could it be possible that this 'race' [somehow] happened *before* the moon got blown up in the first place? Haven't played SA2 in ages, so I can't remember the chronology of when it happened.

I'll let you off s'long as it was good alchohol :v:

Also, the Shadow & Sonic race was the last part before the Last Story, the moon got blown up with 6 Chaos Emeralds available, and the race was for control of the last one for whatever team.

Yeah, and it's part of the risk associated with the extra power: you can go hella fast, but you're going to have to keep going hella fast and possibly drown, get crushed, or whatever.

In StH2, you didn't even have a say in whether you transformed to Super Sonic or not; all that Emerald and ring power has carte blanche to make that decision for you. A bit annoying? Yeah. But perhaps more realistic from a (back-)story–oriented perspective.

Although I, as a fan of convenience, can somewhat appreciate the addition of the ability to de-transform in various hacks, I feel ultimately that it's defeating the point. Perhaps even StH3 was too generous in allowing the player to choose whether or not they transformed; I'm not qualified to judge.

Would make some sense though, considering it's meant to be a homage to Dragon Ball Z. At first, Goku couldn't transform at will, it was to a need, but then after the initial transformation he learned that he could do it any time and anywhere when he wanted.

I think not being able to de-transform adds another layor of replayability and skill to the game- you have to be pretty good in certain acts to ensure that you don't reach the end/boss without losing all your rings. De-transforming would break that, making the game even easier.

Great point. Can you tell I know next to nothing about DBZ? :D

Completely concurred.

Your reasoning here is similar to the intention behind my musings on whether it is or isn't ‘better’ that the player have the ability to choose to transform in the first place: I was thinking aloud about how it affects difficulty/skill. Now, on balance, I think it's probably better to have the choice – since having to take damage to avoid a forced transformation hardly qualifies as skill, although avoiding rings might in the eyes of some people – but it might be something interesting for others to consider/discuss.
