I've got the soundfont mentioned, v3 that is. And I've got the full FL Studio program.

I'd like to know how I'm supposed to get it to work correctly, and how to make it sound authentic.
I've seen the videos on youtube using the soundfont, the audio sounds much like the Genesis 16 bit style. I know how to load the soundfont, and set it up... but when I play notes with it, it sounds like a regular MIDI sound that sounds nothing like the Genesis...

Does anyone here use this soundfont, and can you please help me?

Have you put the .sf2 in the Soundfont folder?
You'll have to use the Soundfont player too- and with that load up the soundfont in the channel settings.
You say you play notes- what with may I ask? Do you use a midi setup like a USB keyboard / a Midi-USB adaptor? Or are you trying the keyboard keys on your PC keyboard?

I've put the .sf2 in the soundfont folder, and clicked open in new channel. It then appears in the Pattern roll, below Kick, Clap, Hat and Snare, as its own channel. Then, I can go into channel settings and change the instrument patch, but they all sound like your standard run of the mill MIDI instruments... and nothing like the Genesis instruments. I've gone into piano roll as well, and input notes there, all the same. Something is wrong...

tl;dr, Drag and drop onto your channel, set instrument.

Yes I've done that. I know how to do that. My problem is its not sounding like Genesis style sound. I'm getting different instruments and sounds just fine. What I'm not getting is Genesis style sounds

EDIT: Perhaps someone could post a video or something... showing me how to get the instruments to sound proper. I know I'm loading them correctly... but there must be something I'm doing wrong.

If you have access to Skype I could help out with screen sharing~

Here's a test example of how a standard MIDI should sound MD-ized:

I really should've replaced the lead instrument, I made a version that sounded far nicer but never got around to uploading it.

A better example?

Yes... This is exactly what I was looking for. This is EXACTLY what I'm trying to get it to sound like. What I'm getting is generic MIDI instrument shit.

If you want an authentic Mega Drive sound, you're certainly not going to get it with an "Ultimate" soundfont that has half the instruments routed to strings and only one drum kit. Your best bet would be to use something like VOPM - see here for more info.
You sure you've got the right channel selected, though?

I'm somewhat sure, hence a Skype share screen, or a Youtube tutorial would help... but I've seen videos of others who've said they used the same soundfont to create the sound I'm looking for. This includes the two videos above. I am not sure if they are created with the same font and program, but that's the sound I'm going for and I'm fairly certain its been done. I really just think it's something I'm doing wrong...

Just to throw my hat into the mix, here's the result that I get when I use the Ultimate Genesis Soundfont:

Here I decided to go for the Sonic 2 approach and used the Trumpet instrument for the vocal tracks. It's the best approach if you want to make your tracks sound like they came from Sonic 2.

Haven't gotten to have a listen, as my Freegate isn't working ATM, therefore I can't view YouTube vids (Curse you Great FireWall of China...) But I will definitely keep this tip in mind for some of the tracks. Thanks for the tip :)

PS I will listen to this when I can!

So, a big thank you to Fuzzball Fox. I am able to use the soundfont, and everything... thanks to him... and have put together a tune of Star Light Zone using it.
Check it out in the Creative Works forum! (Once I finally post it XD)
