Has anyone considered that maybe the system requirements are so that when the game is more resource-intensive, people who ran it on machines that could handle the alpha but can't run the game at that point will have a heads-up?

Fair enough, but they're still ridiculous.

I'd say it's only a fair enough point if they were to outright say that, but they didn't, and the result is people saying "well I ran it on X system" and it's likely that everyone will base their overall expectations on those reports. Aside from that, though, the game appears to be at a point where there should be nothing in the world that can drive the requirements up noticeably higher, and the existing performance is still ridiculous for what this is

I believe in Sonic 2 HD... If the project does continue, which it should, at this point IMO...

Get rid of that piece of shit LOst.

This kind of disrespect is really uncalled for. :(

No it's not.

LOst managed to take Sonic 2—a game that initially fit comfortably within the Mega Drive's 64KB of RAM—and make it hog upwards of 1GB. There is no excuse for this. Seriously, how does it make any amount of sense for a port of Sonic 2 running at 4x its original resolution to be this demanding?

LOst doesn't deserve anyone's respect. He's always been incompetent, and manages to obfuscate that fact by talking with an (artificial) air of secrecy, as if he's up to something legendarily marvelous, when in actuality he just has his head up his ass. The man is as arrogant as he is clueless.

This, a thousand times over.

I'm sure everyone's considered it... so imagine a full HD Sonic 2, with everything intended, levels, characters, extended multiplayer... etc. Now tell me, honestly, that the requirements are reasonable... That's why people are pissed.

Never said it was, just throwing an idea out there.

Also maybe they have no idea what the requirements are yet, isn't that the point of releasing an alpha? Don't actually know.

No, demonstraitably so they do know the requirements, and this is also not the first alpha, either.

That's what private testing is for; either that or if you're not going to bother, you say "I need performance reports" and not "this absolutely requires x". To me, this seems more like a case of a developer convincing himself that the program running for him is all that matters regardless of his system spec, spouting off the numbers for that spec, and calling it a day

Gambit said in chat that they didn't have a big range of hardware to test on, so take the requirements with a grain of salt. Regardless of the listed requirements, the fact remains that the engine needs more resources than it should, considering what it is.

Also, whatever you do, don't press Up, Down, Left, Right, A, then Enter on your keyboard while you're on Retro.

This just made my day.

Back to the note of requirements, though... and I am aware this is NOT the first alpha... but regardless, I would think that if they had little resources to test from, they could've come up with a better solution than what they did, just basing requirements off of their own machines... if all game companies did this, I'd imagine that Crysis would not be the only game that would make us shudder...

I'm no expert on this... but I'm confident that I, or any of you all... could've come up with a better solution than what they did.
That said, I was able to play it on my machine, so I wont winge about this too much.

That locked my browser up yo :|

Anyway, yes this is an alpha, but seriously? With all the nitpicking over how SEGA does this or that, and then you release something like this, then put DRM in it, like what the fuck?

I hope that's immortalised forever into retro. Best parody ever.
