Well this is interesting. A job offer for senior/executive producer for "a high quality product based on a reimagining of one of Sega's most beloved IP's."

Actually, seeing how the job listing from Sega of America, I don't think this is for Sonic. Still interesting though.

Color me skeptical, I get the feeling he's just kind of saying these things to make it seem like Sonic is this dynamic Mario-like character you can use anywhere.

I mean, they've used Sonic in wildly different genres in the past, but it seems like an unusual idea to try it again today.

It seems post-'06 they've been going in more Mario-like directions with Sonic.

Yeah, I guess. I guess it beats the direction they were heading towards in '06 though.

Like I said on this thread: If they plain to change Sonic's look, at least consider combining the two designs.

Thanks for the in-depth link. That really broadened my understanding.

But to get out of the cockery for a moment, I think that concept art in Sonic G HD had a good version of the two combined. Though I still do not see why faeces needs to be mixed into something that has no flaws.

Yes that would unite the fanbase, to hate mutually how sonic looked.

Well the spagetti artwork and plastic-looking modeling is stuff from the past, post-adventure design is a little more pleasing to the eye, so I say a little bit of that transformation already occurred.

I don't want this to turn into another "How would you redesign Sonic" topic, but I wish that actual artwork would return to the series for box art and promotional work. To me splashing renders everywhere is just a cheap, easy and soulless way of using Sonic's (and indeed any other character's) image, and loses the charm that hand drawn art has. Say what you like about the Adventure era art, but I think it looks a hell of a lot better than if they just lazily used a CG render.

It really depends on the render really, I find Unleashed and those what came after good ones, and as much I like 2D artwork, I don't mind if they only use those in promotional materials, afterall they depict quite well how the character looks in the game.

About the Adventure art, probably my comment wasn't specific enough in my case, I just didn't like the whole "boneless poses, vegetables as a mustache, and relics atitudes from an late 90's era that smelled", artwork.
This one for example, imo, while using the same art style, it's feels more natural to me and the whole "gonna have the tude" isn't forced into it, and feels very nice and it's actually one of adventure-style pics I like.

They can do whatever they want to Sonic as far as I'm concerned. They can keep him the same, make him green, or they can reboot the franchise by roiding him the fuck up and sending him on a dark, gritty, realistic quest for vengeance for the death of his parents. I'll stick around if they make GOOD classic Sonic games, but apart from that... bleh! Do what you want Sega, it's not like I've been buying your shit anyway (apart from Generations).

It was that Adventure art that saw me turn away from Sonic. There hadn't been a proper Sonic since 94, and by the time 99 came around and I saw the redesign on the Adventure box, I laughed hysterically, put it back and said "nah!". At the time I was flushing the heads of anime/hentai fans down the shitter and stealing their lunch money, so to see that Sonic now looked like part of that world I fucked it all off until Generations. I will concede however that Adventure 1 was a great game (with Sonic and Tails) when I came to try it but the rest were shite.

Let's just be glad Sonic's design will [hopefully] never look like this (I've been wonedering how to post this image without creating a new thread, or bumping up a really old one):

Maybe this could be Sonic's new profession? :v:
