I probably would have bought the 3DS version if it kept the console levels. I'd have taken a portable classic City Escape and Seaside Hill any day.

In future, SEGA leaving out the Wii (or Wii-U?) is probably a bad idea.

I probably would've bought the 3DS version if I actually had a 3DS. Seriously, they should developed what they did for the 3DS version on the Wii as well, it would have made so much more.

EDIT:

I would had jumped on the 3DS version sooner if it had Game gear and GBA levels. not just DS levels.

This, too. I would have been more enthusiastic about it if it had been more uniquely made as a true handheld anniversary game that was more set apart from the console version.

Could be more, Isn't it true that Steam doesn't release sales reports on the PC versions of games? maybe the PC port isn't lumped in with this...

If it is though, Jeez, I really thought Generations was going to do better. Welp, goodbye to this game ever happening again. Guess those Wii owners really got their Payback huh?...

But couldn't SEGA just do the math and figure out how many were sold on PC?

But that'd still be just a guess not an official number. that means this whole sales amount could be more because of the lack of correct PC sales figures.

Kind of wish the article broke down the versions and see what sold allot in which version.

You could go and check the Steam achievements, that will give a pretty good guess. People did it with Dungeon Defenders to check out the Steam sales there.

One thing to remember is that Sonic titles have a fairly strong longtail in terms of selling - I can see this continuing this year with ASR2 being the main Sonic title for the year.

Total sales may yet beat Colours & Unleashed.

I got a nice sum of money from payday yesterday so I treated myself and bought myself a 3DS along with Sonic Generations and Super Mario 3D Land.

I've completed Generations and I can say I enjoyed but it did suffer from annoying flaws such as the controls that were a pain in the backside as well as the amount of dick moves made in the level design too. That said, I enjoyed the boss levels more than the console versions. The rival battle as races were nice too and the final boss fight was more pleasing to the eyes. I don't like the idea of using the points you get from walking and such to buy missions.

I hated the 3DS final boss. Yeah, it looked nice, but the Modern segments were terrible. It was impossible to control and for some reason, I could never dodge those fucking hands. Also, besides the final boss, the game doesn't look very good. I mean it's not terrible, but when you look at other 3DS games like Mario and Kid Icarus, it just looks lack-luster.

That's interesting.

I beat this game two weeks ago. The final boss? Tedious. But honestly? Quick and boring to defeat. Beat him in 3-4 minutes twice. It was a shitty battle, but it might not be as bad as it was made out to be. Actually playing it really opened up how dull and anticlimactic it all was.

Final verdict? Mediocre. Retro Sonic plays like a tank and isn't as responsive as I'd like him to be. Slenderhog's 3D platforming feels like it could have been a nice thought if he still didn't control like he's greased in several layers of oil and they hadn't ditched the only good gameplay choice from Colours that they made. And the new drifting is both a nuisance and an improvement. It helps turn too fast, whereas the old drift turned too slow. I've had better from Mario Kart.

And need I even bother noting all the problems with automation and block-y platforming? Many have already gone on about this horrid practice, yet they still insist on this being the way to go. It's fine if you're making an average rate platformer or Sprocket game, but not so much a Sonic game.

I'm referring to the 3DS version. The 360 version is easy as shit. Boring, but really easy.

Does anyone know the sales figures for Taxman's SCD port? I'm wondering if it sold more than Generations. Perhaps it's an unfair comparison, as it's a multi platform DL title. It would still interesting to see.

Well it was at the top of the charts for a while on iOS if I recall correctly, but don't think SEGA released any numbers. Keep in mind that it is a downloadable-only game though, which generally don't make as much as retail games.
