[Zero-Boom]

Hey everyone.

So I'm taking up a Graphics Design and Media course and I feel that I should get myself a tablet. I'm planning my career to be in the graphics industry (as you may have already guessed) and I know that tablets are quite essential to graphic designers. The problem is which to get.

I'm currently looking at this tablet. It's good value, has many five star reviews from the users and seems to be a very high quality product. However I'd like a few more opinions before going ahead with the purchase. If you have any other recommendations of a better product, please feel free to share them with me.

That's the same tablet I have. It works pretty well, I'd say, but then again it's my first tablet so I'm not quite sure how else a different kind of tablet would fare. Though for a few days I borrowed my brother's girlfriend's tablet - different model, same manufacturer, and it worked about the same.

Wacom seems to be the way to go these days, and the Bamboo series is what I hear is a good tablet for starting out. You may want to research some other brands first, ask around a little before making a purchase, but I'd say go for it.

I was considering buying a tablet too, but the brand my Dad found was a Wacom Intuos4. I'm not much of an expert though so I dunno if it's much better than a Bamboo.

It is. It has four times as much pressure sensitivity, for starters.

Well my opinion is that it doesn't matter what make it is as long as you can use it.

The wacom series are brilliant for graphics, I have used them for years, however there was a point where my wacom broke. I noticed that mine was out of date and the price of the new ones, it put me off buying another one. I decided to see my local stores to see if they would have what I am looking for.

Now I know Trust have some flawed products but there tablet is amazing and it was only £20 too.

Am not saying don't buy a wacom, they are probably better now than ever, but if you can get something cheaper which can do what you need then go for it.

I have that exact same one as well, and yes, Bamboo is the way to go. However, honestly, I rarely even need to use it. For most of the graphic design I do, I work with vector in Illustrator. I rarely need to do "painting" but it definitely helps, but if your school is anything like mine, you'll probably be working more with Illustrator vector than Photoshop raster.

It's probably obvious by now, but I'll reiterate this just to make sure you know this. Avoid Medion branded tablets by the plague. The pens are terrible, even when they are working (they get their pressure sensitivity from magnetism, which obviously fails when any magnetic materials come into play). There's a reason I'm still jammed in the world of computer mice.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Taking what many others have said also, I decided to go ahead and purchase it. Considering the thing is normally like £50 it's a steal.

Ah, really? That's handy to know. I'll definitely be avoiding them in the future then.
