So, I finally went and grabbed a copy of SF4 (yep, vanilla) arcade edition, and the X2 loader.

Now, I'm having some issues.

1) Game is far too fast. For a system that stutters slightly when on Drive-in at Night in the PC release, this is surprising. Is there a frame-limiter somewhere?

Edit: Solved by switching desktop to 60hz before playing.

2) I can't hit diagonally up-right or down-left when using a stick (MadCatz SE stick for 360). How can I overcome this?

Edit: Solved by using Joy2Key and using the arrows for movement.

3) I tried to use memory editing to play as Gouken (he was in, but not normally playable, and I thought a memory poke would fix that), but the game craps out, even though it shows his profile image (note this isn't normally seen in-game). Is there anything I can do with donor PC files to allow him to be played?

Edit: Only question left. Seth plays normally.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Where are you getting the X2 dumps? I've only seen dumps of blazblue and kof.

They're around. Googling might help.

Now I'm having a new problem. The loader locks up when trying to play any video file. Locks up so hard I have to kill it from task manager. I tried having vsynch on, but no joy.

Let me rephrase that. Are there any other games dumped beyond SF4, KOF-MCLXVIII and Blazblue?
I want to play that new Gouketsuji game.

The only one in that series I've seen dumped is a Matrimelee Matsuri. If that's it, then yes.

I don't follow it, so I'm not up on the most current one.

So that's what they uploaded it as. I've been searching for Gouketsuji and Power Instinct, but didn't find it. Got it now, thanks!

Well, I finally got Gouken playable. My issue was probably a lack of a proper Color 2, and then later the 'donor' CMN file (contains moveset information) I used.

What I did was take a memory editor and look for the character modifier. Then, I froze it on Seth and Gouken's values to see what happened.

Here's my findings:

Seth:

- Is the boss version, with normal (I'm guessing 1000) health. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Dropping him to 750 and raping his damage output was the best thing Capcom did to balance him as a playable character.
- Has all commands implemented; plays just fine.
- Rival Battle is against Ryu in Beautiful Bay. No special cutscene, but no crash either.
- Has no Color 2 in an unmodified game. I was able to get this partially fixed, but I doubt I perfected it.
- Seth vs. Gouken (extra fight) got as far as "Fight!" before crashing. May have been the CMN for Gouken I threw in (from PC version). Was replaced with a stock CMN afterward.

Gouken:

- Has proper vs. screen textures (name, profile image, flag).
- Has all moves. Backthrow to Shinsho works just fine.
- Same Rival Battle as Seth. The only change made in the home version was changing the stage, and adding a cutscene/dialogue.
- Normal palm feels like it takes days to recover. EX Palm is as fast as ever, though.
- Sweep feels slower too.
- Gouken vs. Gouken crashed the game. I'm pretty sure this might be due to a bad Color 2 file.
- Gouken's Color 2 contains a strange single texture that I can't immediately identify. I haven't looked too far into it, though, so I'm not sure who it might belong to.

Minor double-post, but I'm confirming the Gouken mirror crash was due to an inappropriate Color 2 file for him. I made a 'custom' one for him by hacking a copy of the Color 1 file and injecting the Color 2 textures. Ran like a champ.

Also, some searching turn up other people having the same problem with videos hanging the loader, and they also have ATI cards (which I have as well). If a fix for that can be found, I'd be all over it.

Say, has SSF4 Arcade Edition been ripped, by any chance?

I'm not 100% sure.

One place I was at said it was ripped and put up for download, but was quickly taken off. I can't verify how true that is, of course, but I haven't seen an image of it floating around either.

Edit: According to this site (in French), Super SF4 is "dumped but not available to the public".

Holy shit, I just made an awesome discovery.

It appears that the Ryu Rival Battle is a bit of a leftover from my methods of accessing Seth/Gouken (I'd picked Sagat for my first match, and apparently that's when the Rival Battle is determined, which is why it was Ryu in Beautiful Bay for both).

When I was able to actually pick Seth and have him from the first fight, I ran into Abel for the Rival Battle, in, wait for it...

Training Stage .

Yes, you heard right. Training stage is in the arcade version, although it doesn't appear to be 'complete' compared to the home version.

The lighting is a bit different, and there's no icon for it. Lastly, they didn't hide the location dot, having it show in the top-left corner of the screen.

Further perusal of the game's files indicate that there's a music file for the Training Stage as well, though I haven't extracted the music from it yet. I'm going to guess it's the same as the home version, but I'm not 100% certain.

...think this should be turned into a general "Street Fighter 4 Arcade" hacking topic? I'd love to get some extra hands making more discoveries.

It should be noted that Gouketsuji 5 has a beautiful debug menu in it, so you don't have to fuck around with that gigantic asshole of a boss to see everyones ending.
And the game graphics are stored in png files with slightly edited headers and a custom container. However, it is still not possible to extract graphics from the game, since the graphics are stored as tiles for some reason (!!!). Too bad; I would've loved to extract the extra backgrounds they put in for each characters, some of them are hilarious (the flying granny head is nightmare material).

Necro time (and not the dude from SF3, either).

More digging into the game's files indicates several things:

  • Training Stage's music is not in the arcade version. It uses Drive-in At Night's music outside of Rival battles.
  • New material can be inserted into the game, if it is the proper format. This was tested with video files for endings.
  • Capcom intended Street Fighter IV, from the start, to be a Super Turbo reunion with new characters.

More in-depth explanation of the third point: After setting records with Gouken and Seth, I found the high score icons were that of Ryu. I went into the ranking screen's folder, seeing if I needed to add in the appropriate icons (or if I even could), and I found placeholder icons, with these codes in them: CMY, FLN, DJ, HWK, SKR, DAN, GEN, ROSE (and then the fourth row having Akuma, Gouken and Seth icons, so all I really need to do is somehow make Seth and Gouken use the icons in place for them).

As we know now, the home release contained 6 of those 8, while the last two were the first shown for Super. Very interesting how Capcom planned for them so early in production.

On the subject of the video lockups: This was caused by a change in how Direct3D handles playback of video files in Windows Vista/7 and Windows XP. I have a dual-boot machine, and when I switch to the XP install, I have zero problems.

Quick question: have you seen a dump of Panic Museum floating around? I've looked and couldn't find anything related.
I'd love to try setting up this arcade shooter with wiimotes + glovepie as guns.

I'd love to see some videos of the stuff you're finding. Care to put some up on Youtube or something?
