Complete collection including issue 0 and all specials.

Fuck it, I'm going to make a collection App for the iPad. Running scans through a batch image re-sizer sticking in a scroll interface and a quick jump menu will take all of a day.

My collection.

I've been wanting to make an iPad adaptation of this comic for ages, I have the means, but I don't have the permission.

I tried sending an email to Nigel Kitching but got no reply.

Sega never respond either.

*Dies of happiness* Also I would LOVE that App

Just to add to the awesomeness. They are all my own and were each bought on the actual week of release. Issue one was released 5 days before my 8th birthday (23rd of May 1993).

Release for the iPhone too and I'll love you forever. I've been wanting to read these comics for a long time now; they look much more entertaining than the mediocre experience that was/is the Archie series.

I used to read Sonic The Comic at my friend's house some years back, he came from Scotland so he had almost all of them while I had the Swedish copies of the Archie comic. I always liked it, apart from some minor things like Super Sonic being a complete douche-bag.

Hmm.

Ok I can make the app for for both iPhone and iPad. Will have to be two different distributions. Scaling down a scrollview programmatically is a bitch.

Might have to split it up into different issues due to file size (current estimate is about 11mb per issue unless I compress the JPEGs/PNGs even further) OR I could just do the sonic stories only and leave out Shinobi, wonderboy etc (maybe do them in seperate releases).

What I am wondering though is what to do about the legality of it. If I sell copies I get in shit, if I give away copies I get in shit. I have my own business to run and I can't really sacrifice my developer account for the sake of a side project. Maybe someone on here has a contact I can follow, I've emailed Kitching and Elson before with no reply. I do have contacts with Sega through twitter so I might be able to fish out something, but help would be good.

If it all backfires. I could distribute a max of 100 copies of the app via ad-hoc on a first come first serve basis???

Perhaps you could contact the guy who does STC Reruns.co.uk and work together continuing giving us the scans each week?

I found your solution. =P

(Seriously, if it's as quick to do as you're making it sound, something for those of us without iTrash devices would be nice. No authentication process for the application, either!)

Even though I develop for Android less, I'm not prepared to tarnish that account either.

Although I see what you mean doing this a private release via android, means no authentication so it would be a free for all.

Android is far harder and more time consuming to develop for, especially stuff like this (think of how many devices and screen sizes).

<< Besides, I've just started up a Retro Magazine for the iPad and I can just re-use my code for STC which is why it will take so little time.

IF however I do get somewhere with it on iPad/iPhone I'll totally consider Android, even though I hate deving for it.

I will look into this and would like to see it done properly.

Just make it for iPhone/iPod touch and release it via Cydia.

Then what about the people like me who don't jailbreak? besides there are legality issues on the Cydia side of things too.

Got a message back from Sega,

They're reluctantly looking into it.
