Everyone can have their seperate Sonic 4's. I know for a fact that some there are many people working on a Sonic 4, or plan to in the future.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist the temptation.
...Anyways, not that I've got that out of the way, do you have any details about what the game will be like? Will it have the options to play as Sonic with Tails, Sonic with Knuckles, Tails with Knuckles, etc.?

I think you should both make a game, if you can that is. It'll be intresting how each of you interpret an improved Sonic 3&K, and I expect quite diverse results.
Also if either team gives up, then they'll still be one in development.

Anyhow, onto my ideas, some of which I posted in another topic...
- Weather: Rain/Snow
- Any two characters can play in co-op, not just Sonic + Tails (as SoNick said)
- Freeze time item box (all badniks freeze)
- 20/50/random ring item box perhaps
- New style Special Stage
- Add option to use S1,SCD,S2 or S3 character sprites
