So then, long time no see. Some people would probably remember the “Sonic Henceforth” thread, for those who don't: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=20650

Well, since I didn't give many updates on this project since July (I was pending approval and kind of forgot about the forum)… Some things have happened, some stuff has changed, names, places, ideas, etc.
The biggest change was the name of the project, which changed from Sonic Henceforth to…

… Sonic the Hedgehog.

“What the hell, man? We already have three games with that name!”

Well, to be honest, when we started the project we had this stupid and naive idea that we could change Sonic the Hedgehog. So that's why we gave the name “Sonic Henceforth” in other words, Sonic “from now on”. But, as we were developing the story and everything else we had this epiphany: “We're not changing Sonic the Hedgehog, we're recreating it!”
Yeah, we're kind of narcissists.
So, as we're rebooting everything… Why don't we give it a proper "reboot name"? Sonic the Hedgehog it is.

---

I can't reveal much about the game's story yet, but expect for something amazing… Well, the game’ story occurs in Sonic OVA's world. We want to explain how the Land of Sky and Land of Darkness were created. Something involving Chaos Emeralds and… Shhh… I've already told too much.

---

Models:

Our Sonic, a custom model made by us just for the game itself.

A 3D view of it.

Dr. Robotnik (Made by Polygon Jim), also custom made for the game only.

Rhinobot (Made by Polygon Jim). Every stage will have some badnicks and some Eggbots... Expect different kinds of enemies.

Super Sonic!

---

Songs:

The songs are maybe one of my favorite things about the project. Trying to please Retro and Next-Gen gamers, we have for each song a 16-bits and a HD version.

Title Screen 16bits:

Aerial Ambush 16bits:

Some videos (no Gameplay yet, sorry about that):

Well, that's it, hope that you guys enjoy. smile.png

I had doubts about your Sonic model until I saw it in game; it looks brilliant in action. Reminds me of Mega Man: Powered Up

I'm pretty damn sure Polygon Jim made those Sonic and Eggman models, along with several other models displayed, specifically for Sonic Fan Remix.

Edit: Polygon Jim himself has corrected me. Whoops.

I made the Eggman model for fun a while back and offered it to both this project and Fan Remix. I have no idea if Fan Remix will end up using it or not though. The Rhinobot was made by me for this project as well.

Oops, I forgot to put your name, sorry 'bout it! I'm editing the main post right now.

This is great news. I was really impressed with Henceforth, I'm glad it's still being worked on.

Though, is calling it "Sonic the Hedgehog" a good idea? Imagine if someone tries to google it, for instance. They'd have to either google "Sonic the Hedgehog", which would just bring up information about Sonic as a whole, or they'd have to google "Sonic the hedgehog fangame", which would probably turn up a list of Sonic fangames.

I'd definitely consider a name change.

I'm sure they could just add "fan game" and "3D" as keywords, and find it soon enough, or the project can have a specific keyword as "StH3D" or something.

I love those screens very much, hope to see some levels soon.

This game is actually pretty awesome. I'm sure the engine's changed quite a bit since I last saw it, which only makes me more excited for future, as it's sure to be even better. You gotta love the awesome music this project has been pumping out, it's off the charts. By the way Pedro, I can't help but notice you didn't have a shot of that new, INSANELY sexy blue fire effect for your boost, are you not using that anymore? That shit looked so cool it was absurd.

Also you should post a newer game play video than the one you did, I've personally seen your game show off cooler shit than that, why not post a newer recording to show it off?

(On a side note, I fixed some of your more glaring grammar mistakes Pedro, cause I'm cool like that. For those who don't know, P3DR0 is from Brazil so on occasion his English is written a little funky at times. Since he's ESL, cut him a little slack on the grammar Nazi thing since if you think about it, his bi-lingual skills are pretty damn good.)

Oops, forget to post those...

There ya go.
Just remembering that the "fire" is constantly moving. :3

About the video, we're just trying to fix some bugs and I guess I'll post something.

Oh man, I totally forgot about this project. I love the visual aesthetic here! A cel shaded sonic is something I've personally wanted for a while now. Can't wait to see more!

While this looks pretty damn sweet, I can't help to think that "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the name of your game creates certain expectations. The visual design on this project so far looks very smooth. :D

I love the outlines, they really appeal to me. Reminds me of the game 'Wario Land: The Shake Dimension', as that had outlines on the player and other things (but I think they were hand drawn sprites).

Looks very nice.

This is brilliant! I love the music it's just a shame that the 3D cell-shaded models aren't going to be used to their full potential, being a 2.5D side-scroller :/
Are you going to make any cutscenes/intro videos using those models?

Pretending to. We just have to create the other characters first, even if they're not at the gameplay they'll show up. smile.png
