Blaze I think that looks really good the way it is. The diamond shaped landcape is the best take on GHZ/PPZ I've ever seen. However if you wanted to make the statue look a little more "Sonic" I think that making it way less round and playing with some geometric shapes would be the way to go. The basis for all Sonic graphics is geometric shapes even in Sonic 3. Take a look at the rocks in your stage and how they are shaded and shaped, maybe you can incorporate that look into your statue a bit more. Another great basis for this statue might be the golem from sandopolis. The fish from Sonic 1 special stage is the last example I can think of.
I tried doing "rock" patterns like that for the moai head and it just ended up looking silly whenever I'd try it. I've continued to play with it for the last 20 or 30 minutes and this is what I've got.
Oh I do LOVE the Angel Island in the Background! Its the little details that bring out this awesome art! I am wondering what you are trying to do with that rock...it seems to me to be more background material, but it looks like you are attempting a more foreground approach. :/
It's supposed to be a background detail, yeah. This is probably the final version for now because I am getting sick of working on it.
I know I said this already but perhaps you didn't think of it visually. Have you tried using this fish as a base? edit: didn't see your last post its looking even better.
Well its not REALLY a project, although I am thinking of making something out of this... But I mainly put this together to showcase the Sonic 4 sprites I've been ripping... (Well, not entirely since they use a 3d model (I think) But I've just been ripping out of screenshots&videos&stuff) Anywho, here: Never really noticed that purple outline around the sprite...Hm. That's definitely not meant to be there.
Pretty much a mock up, but was considering turning it into a fan game I guess. Cause I done quite a bit of work on level design (not noticeable from the screenshots I know...)
Clean rips of the assets from the Japanese Sonic 4 site were already obtained; see this post in the thread for StephenUK and co.'s planned Genesis/MD remake. There's probably more information and other stuff in that topic, and maybe in the Sonic 4 thread.
Something I've been working on... I'd like add something to break up the repetitiveness of the tile. Sorta like how the rocks break up the repetitiveness of Labyrinth.
Something I've sort of been working on the last couple weeks. Essentially my "final" for my high school 3D class. Not much to show right now, but after I get the basics of the level finished for the class, I want to see about making it a full fangame (although, I may just leave it to one complete level). Names considered: Sonic the Fangame #2418 :specialed:
I thought I'd post this small video the shows off the new effect I've created for the time travel in Sonic Time Twisted. The video shows off a bit on the unfinished water level too. Thanks to Torigara for the effect and Chimpo for the idea. And as always LarkSS and his kick ass music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv9YibnVsKk
I've had the itch to make a traditional Sonic game. I couldn't resist it any longer. (Click it) Expect something slightly more substantial shortly? And no, before you ask, that's not Sonic Worlds Delta. I built that, myself, from the "PolePod" release (not the buggy Experimental Build, the one before that). I kind of wish I had known about Delta, it might've saved me some time. It's also super weird how our test levels ended up evolving in similar directions. I actually just noticed kind of a weird minor bug in this video, but yeah, I'm just about to start on level creation today, to give you an idea of how far things are. As for what this means for TFH, well, we'll talk about that some other time.
As lovely as that all looks Blaze, this is the reason why I kinda left fangaming and went on to enjoy hacking and disassemblies more (although I guess I'm still guilty of it here myself, but still c.c). It's always engine work, and more work on the engine, and yet more. Content of your actual games, pls. Levels, artwork, sprites, music, pls. An MMF engine doesn't mean as much here as it does on SFGHQ, but I can appreciate the effort it takes to put into it.
Yeah, and quite a few of the engines I've seen in action seem fairly lacking in terms of physics. This one seems to have quite a few quirks of its own; no offence intended! Still, it's not difficult to understand the appeal; I imagine it's much easier to start a fangame than a hack. (If only I could do either. :P)
