Looks highly similar to the pencil test animation from Sonic CD.
Also, where are his ears? Did Sonic turn into an echidna?
yeah that's pretty much what I am aiming for (the sonic CD pencil test style animation)
and I didn't bother drawing his ears in yet. figured I'd do that last after I finish drawing in all the frames.
http://puu.sh/NQF3 I've only did more inbetweens at the moment. (the blinking is because I haven't done those frames yet.)
of course the animations from the pencil test wont be the only thing I include since that won't be enough. it's a start nonetheless.
plus I'd only just feel bad if I just only did inbetweens to that pencil test animation and didn't throw in anything new.
it will also be educational for myself to learn to animate in the style of someone else. would be good, right?

That looks like the product of Blue Sky making a Sonic game out of the Vectorman graphic style.
Why yes, I would play a game that looked like that.

I think it looks sick as hell, but I wonder two things.
1) What would organic characters look like in this art style?
2) Would a 2.5D cel-shaded game in the same style look better in motion?

That is one viewtiful drawing indeed! I would love to play the crap out of a game with that art style.
Also, did you make this using the live trace tool, or is it a cel-shaded rendering? That is assuming you did draw it.

Woo Engine!
Just demonstrating things... like the floor can be 1px thick and still work fine (Which was not possible at all in Sonic 4 AYII's engine, in fact the floor had to be about 70px thick at least)
Not strictly Sonic yet, but can very easily be (just needs mask sizes and speed value changes).
Trying to be the simplest, or just very simple, 360 degree (Game Maker) engine. At the moment it isn't 360 degrees but it really wont take long to add that into it.

It's a model, but I'm not sure if he traced it or used cel-shaded rendering.
But Streak, "Yes dude! Yes!".

To me, that just looks like a S4E1 style "sprite". And I didn't like the style of cellshading S4E1 had, so I probably wouldn't play a game with that sprite style unless the gameplay made up for it. But I might be alone on thinking this- so far I'm the only one complaining about the sprite.

If I'm not mistaken, Sonic 4 Episode 1 has a 3D model, just shaded to look like a sprite.

I think I hear Comix Zone music. I do, don't I?
That aside, I don't know if 1px thick floors would work with a Sonic engine. Sonic can end up moving pretty damn fast...you sure he won't glitch through something at high speeds?

It reminds me more of VectorMan (and a better example but I can't remember of what it is) rather than Sonic 4 Ep 1.
