Okay, so Red Crimson made a new ROM hack. This time of Streets of Rage 2. It allows you to play as Shiva and Zamza currently. He said he was probably going to be quitting it after he finishes Zamza. Shiva plays just like his BKIII: Director's Cut hack version does (for those of you who remember.) Unfortunately, I cannot provide a build for you since I don't have his permission to publicly release it as of yet.

Anyway, here's a couple of videos:
<!--id1--><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dB4aQ-sYMR4&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dB4aQ-sYMR4&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object><!--id2-->
This is the lastest version of Zamza. He plays similar to the boss version. Since he was built off of some script for Skate, he's currently only as strong as Skate. This will be fixed in the future. Same with everything else that looks wrong.

And here's Shiva, though this is a video of an older build. He's been slightly fixed to where he KO's properly and what not:
<!--id1--><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P3yVygvXk9s&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P3yVygvXk9s&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object><!--id2-->
Other than the above problem he's the same in the current build

Wait, so Streets of Rage has an active hacking community? Where is it (for personal reference)?

Well, it's not like a SUPER active community. Really, there aren't enough hackers around the community. I can't link to it because every time I do, Tweaker gets onto me for advertising. But it's Brawler's Avenue forums. It was streetsofrage.net but the site lost that domain name due to problems.

I think there's a difference between making an entire topic for the sole purpose of advertising the site, and providing someone with a link when they ask for it.

Anyway, here if you can't find it, andlabs.

Can we have a hack that has Shiva playable with the exact moves he has as the SOR2 boss, and absolutely no other additions?
The one in the video has up/down run, the SOR3 power bar, and a stupid looking flame kick throw, the one-leg-kick is not multi-hit, some sound effects are wrong, and so on... The guy has pretty much a complete move set to be a player character, except for a standing jump attack and a back-hit.

Really, a lot of people I've talked to have liked the flame kick throw. You're probably the first one who's complained about it. Anyway, he plays near identical to his Bare Knuckle III: DX Director's Cut hack counterpart. I will agree, the bar's kinda gay but regardless, a lot of people seem to like it so don't expect any of your complaints to be changed. FYI, the diagonal run is a new feature. All the characters can do it, not just Shiva. Probably should have mentioned that in my first post. I have actually thought of telling Red Crimson about the sound effect thing though. It bugs me too personally.

Just enjoy it. At least he's fucking playable and at least somebody is taking the time to hack a game not many others really give a shit about hacking. You want it done to your taste, then you do it. wink.png

Edit: Also Shiva has no front facing throw. That's why the flame kick throw was done. He's meant to have a complete moveset. You know the throw where you grab onto the opponent then press Down+ Back + B when facing the opponent from the front? Yeah, Shiva lacks one of those. Plus, he's based off of imported Bare Knuckle III: Director's Cut code. Red Crimson also hasn't quite figured out how to program new animations into the game just yet. Remember, hacking to SOR games is still relatively new territory.

Also, what part of the video are you referring to about the kick? He's pretty accurate IMO. He has another combo though it's only activated if you press the B button fast enough, similar to how Axel can do a double kick at the end of a combo if you press the B button fast enough. It uses the other attack involving that one hook punch thingy Shiva does. Not the holding hook punch attack, the other hook punch he uses that's more straight armed.

Edit 2: Also, I'm surprised nobody's really mentioned Zamza yet.

Sorry to be off topic for a sec, but I just saw this:

Don't be a dick to noobs and their hacks if they are terrible. This isn't Sonic Retro. We don't like it when you act like that towards others. Everybody has to start at the bottom of the food chain sometimes.

Ooooh.

Nice hack by the way, I'd like to see some of the other characters soon.

Yeah, yeah, I know I mentioned Sonic Retro. <.< It was pretty silly to bring it up. I'm just a local moderator for the hacking forum there. I don't actually run the whole forum.

And anyway, thank you for your kind comment. Anyway, this isn't my hack. I'm just one of the testers for it. Red Crimson is the hacker.
I'm also not sure about if anymore characters are going to be implemented after this. Red Crimson said he's going to be going back to hacking Shinobi III after he finishes implementing Zamza and he said that he probably wasn't going to be coming back to hacking SOR games.

Edit: I'd better fix that rule so that I don't get in trouble.

Please refrain from insulting a site while you're on it.

It's not good.

You know?

lol Scarred Sun, You probably wouldn't have noticed that if Sonica hadn't posted it. But yeah, I'll fix it if it bugs you that much. wink.png

Edit: It's fixed now. I can't remember right off but I think I was mad at the boards that day when I posted that. No hard feelings I hope. smile.png Anyway, let's get back to discussing the hack. As far as suggestions go, there isn't a whole lot to be suggested unless Red Crimson decides to continue hacking SOR 2 again.

That makes it okay!

Pretty cool stuff, but call me when he's ported Roo. What does he plan on doing with Shinobi III?

Well, as far as I know, he's taken some of Musashi's beta sprites and implemented them into the final version. He's also talked about (dunno if he actually has yet.) porting Revenge of Shinobi music over. I haven't really asked him all he's doing with his Shinobi III hack. Those are really the only things I know right now.

But that's just the thing. I can play BK3 Shiva in BK3. I want to play BK2 Shiva, who is totally different, and makes BK3 Shiva look like a baggy pants gimp.

Skate and Zan has no hold+forward+B moves, Max can't vault over characters, Axel and Blaze only have one backwards hold move while Max has two, Zan can't use weapons, etc.... It's character variety.

Not sure if you know about the difference between his BK2 and BK3 combos.
In BK3, Shiva does two forward palm attacks (1 hit each), the "headcrusher" punch (2 hits), and the one legged kick (1 hit on the last frame, knockdown).
In BK2, Shiva does a bitch slap (2 hits), one forward palm strike (1 hit), and the one legged kick (2 hit, second hit is knockdown. There's a third and fourth hit afterwards too on the last two frames, you can get hit by these when you do a jump while Shiva is standing up. Getting hit on the last frame only seems to happen with Max.).

The BK2 one arguably looks better, and the combination of different sound effects makes it sound much more painful too. (it plays two different effects on the two hits of the last attack)

We'd probably be able to fix it if Red Crimson wasn't stopping the project after implementing Zamza, Meat Miracle. He has a combo where he'll use this other punch, like I mentioned earlier. However, in order for it to happen, you have to press the B button quickly. Similar to how Axel will use his double kick during a combo if B is pressed at the right time.

Personally, I think I'm starting to like Zamza better than Shiva. =P But yes, I'll keep that in mind for future reference Meat Miracle. If I can convince Red Crimson to continue the hack maybe I can get him to fix Shiva up a little. Like I said earlier though, so far you're the first person to complain about that tbh.

Always nice to see SOR getting some love.

I always loved Shiva, thought he was a badass. And I didn't recognize Zamza because I am so used to his SOR1 appearance but when I realised I thought he is equally as awesome as Shiva.

I always loved the Streets of Rage series and Its nice to see some fresh hacks. Makes me want to look into it myself.

Anyway tell Red Crimson that this is awesome and thank you for sharing this Glisp.
