PSP Homebrew Signing App out Things run on official firmware

So, we all know the PSP and PS3 have been split wide open, a move that frightens Sony to no end.

Well, all of you guys still sitting on old custom firmwares and patches can now sign apps on your very own PSP to make the PSP read them. Bonus points? The app is signed too!

I can tell you PicoDrive runs on 6.35, though there looks to be issues with SNES9x. Daedalus, the N64 emulator, also works.

To those interested in porting projects to the PSP, this is a viable solution without having to be on custom firmwares or homebrew enablers.

Since you mentioned it, how smooth is N64 emulation on PSP?

It's not perfect, but some games work pretty well on it. Smash and Mario 64 are two of them. Each update brings gradual improvements.

So I can skip upgrading from CFW A so I can upgrade to CFW B that will allow me to upgrade to CFW C that takes me to the latest version of CFW A that will finally let me update to the newest release of CFW B?

Are their UMD loaders available? I prefer having my games on the memory stick rather than the UMD to reduce load times and battery drain.

At the moment, none of the ISO loaders work on 6.35. I think someone mentioned 6.20's works.

Also yes, this makes CFW an afterthought. The only thing really worth mentioning is that CFW is only good for prx plugins, like custom soundtracks, snapshots, and other things. If you don't care about any of that and are getting tired of patching games to work, this is for you.

Alright sweet. I absolutely hated how there's a million CFWs out there with massive complex web to update to the latest if you were left behind.

I don't have any recent PSP games and I don't plan to pirate any games so 6.20 is fine. Those load times are just awful.

Edit: It just occurred to me that this probably doesn't have the ability to change the CPU clock speed that CFWs have. I'll probably still have to look at CFWs as an option then because some games really do benefit from it like Mega Man Powered Up, Maverick Hunter and the GTA games.

Yeah, that's the other aspect, although I'm sure someone will find a way to introduce that tweak soon enough.

Custom firmware is also good if you happen to like built in ISO loaders, not having to rely on external ones. The prometheus ISO loader works on 6.35 PRO (which also happens to be signed) but nothing beats the convenience of launching your games from the XMB.

I don't know what PSP scene you were following, I never found it difficult to keep up to date with CFW. Honestly, I would have liked it if there were a million of them out there, maybe there would have been competition to improve them.

I'll stay on my CFW until we can get some good ISO loaders. This is definitely promising, though!

This will help me greatly. I have one of the unhackable motherboards on my psp 2000. So I have had to go through the tedious task of using ChickHEN to crash my psp then load a file to boot into a CFW. Now I can simply patch the file that boots into CFW and avoid swapping memory cards over and over.

The fact I can run plain homebrew signed on my PSP means that I may well finally go back to official firmware, that I haven't been on since 2.60. Could not care less about ISOs or prx files. It'll be nice to be on an up to date firmware =P

I was just thinking that myself. It's nice to be able to run recent firmware versions. Definitely keeping my service mode battery though, just in case.

I'm hoping somebody figures out how to sign kernel modules, which would effectively enable custom firmware for everyone, but I'm not holding my breath. Not really a problem as even DaedalusX64 can run on OFW, so I'm good for now.

Tried signing the GBA emu but it didn't work...there a link around to a pre-signed one? Or is it one of those ones that just won't work for now?

For GBA, use gpSP KAI 3.2. The one tweaked for Half Byte Loader.
