I love the look of what I have seen so far, Polygon Jim.
( http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?sho...st&p=517649 ) YEAS!

PS: When this is "done", will the ROM file be released, or not?

I mean of course, for emulator use.

I'd like to ask if there's anything within the game's code or data that suggests if and how future games will work with Sonic 4; Episode 1? Will they lock on? Will they just reference certain information from one or the other?

Within the normal game files, nothing whatsoever even pointing to there ever being an Episode 2 beyond the games title, within the code I have no idea. I still need to get the .dol plugin for IDA working, and even then my PowerPC assembly skills aren't very good, I hardly know anything about it.

All this lock-on talk is getting way off point. Jim answered it, now drop it for good.

I can't really speak for anyone else, but the stuff I'm working on will be released as an IPS patch. Pay for the game, rip it via your Wii, and play the edits. No need to go around pissing off Sega with uploading their files.

I think Jim mentioned on another thread that lock-on might actually be impossible after all, due to it being impossible for WiiWare games to interact with each other. I could be wrong, though, and it'd be better for him to explain it.

I don't think its impossible. smile.png

NL: Will these episodes make up a larger game, played back-to-back like Sonic 3 and Knuckles, or will they be entirely separate? Will there be any data carried across from Sonic 4: Episode 1, such as number of Chaos Emeralds for example?

KB: The Episodes will definitely make up a larger game. After completing them all, you'll have experienced a larger overall story arc that lives up to the epic nature of earlier Sonics. As for what carries over – you'll have to wait and see!

I think SEGA might have found a way. smile.png

I'll believe it when I see it. After all, the Sam and max games and the Tales of Monkey Islabd games were al separate yet each season was an large overall story arc.

The system menu is able to check data inside the Twilight Princess save. I'd imagine a game would be able to do the same as well.

SEGA was first to introduce lock-on technology, so why not be the first to do something with all the Episodes of Sonic 4? I mean, why add new characters in later Episodes so that they have a shorter time of play than Sonic, when you could have them play the entire game?

If "finding a way" translates to "pulling a BioWare," then I don't think that's necessarily what we have in mind.

Fuck IPS. It can't handle something that big.

UPS is the way to go. Less well known, but less limited. That's how the Mother 3 translation was released.

I'm amazed that you people are already deep into hacking Episode One! Good work, you lot!

I'm sure that if you guys keep it legal (and don't post the whole WAD public) and post videos of modded Episode One, some of it must spread amongs video game players and I wouldn't be surprised that SEGA even could post some stuff in their community blog. I FUK'D UP

Just a quick note, if anyone manages to modify the sequenced music and capture a video of it ingame I'll be stoked (even though that's probably pretty easy)

No part of modifying games is legal at all. SEGA won't do anything like that, they even ban fangames/hacks from being discussed in their forums.

Yes. There's often a clause in usage agreements that state that reverse-engineering is strictly forbidden. That applies to video games too.
