So, as you may know, some time ago Sega released its PlaySega service - basically an attempt at a casual gaming portal (although many of the games there are nowhere near casual... but I usually don't like casual games so that's fine with me). One of the games is Sonic Level Creator: basically, build your own Sonic levels. Only VIP accounts can build levels, non-VIP users are stuck with just playing the levels =/

Now, of course many levels suck. I just got back to it out of boredom, and found out that many levels are literally ring/monitor rush, with few or no enemies at all (so I really doubt Sega ever used this thing to get ideas for Sonic 4). So, the idea of this topic is to post levels that are good (or at least don't suck so badly).

Aztec Marble zone 1
Dunno if it's good, but at least it's quite playable (and with a decent length). It even has a pretty huge U half-loop, and you must use momentum here to get through it. Sadly, the engine fucks up and thinks that walls aren't walls >_> (hint: don't press anything but down and you'll be fine). By the way, aren't there any yellow springs in this engine? There are a couple of red springs that could be yellow =/ But besides that, the level is generally good.

PS: yes, it's the UK site the one linked. For some reason whenever I try to get on PlaySega, I end up in the UK site instead of the US one. Oh well (I'm from neither region anyways, so I believe it's just guessing).

You know, this would've made a great Sonic 4 if they fixed the physics up. Much better than the actual game, which seems to disappoint many due to poor decisions made with the game.

Are you fucking kidding me? This level may be okay by Sonic Level Creator standards, but it's still a piece of shit. Sonic 4 walks all over it.

I think he was talking about the concept of the game itself, not the levels that have been actually designed. Seriously, Sega should stop being stupid and make a Sonic game that can be modded. That would sell like hot cake.

Yeah, I didn't really care for that at all. It was just one poorly assembled flash game.

I meant as a classic-style game, this would fit something in the lines of Sonic 4 if it used a 16-bit approach, however this game is rather a mix of Sonic 1 and Sonic CD.

I thank The Sonic Level Creator for existing, as it led to this.

Yes, the levels aren't that great in the game, but it would be nice to find levels that aren't just ring rushes or a bunch of loop-de-loops strung together with a speed box at the beginning.

I have seen a level that involves multiple chutes, but only one is the right one. THAT was inventive with the creator.

It would be cool for someone to create a level that involves running up a wall to proceed to the next section.

I remember I played all of the levels and had a favourite folder with the best ones. The majority however, was just crap. Retro did a couple of them however and they were nice. I'll have to play this soon again.

The idea itself was entertaining imo. In the end it was too restricting however.
