I've been thinking of different ways to get people engaged with the Sega Retro site because there's been relatively little traffic, and I think part of the problem might be that the project is so vast and unorganized right now—with tens of thousands of things to cover, it can be kind of daunting to jump in and start something. Therefore, I was thinking of doing something like a "theme of the month," where everyone would pick a common binding theme, such as Mega Drive racing games, Dreamcast accessories, Sega games released in 2005, consumer toys, whatever, cycling through to give people a defined thing to work on. For instance, with something like Mega Drive racing games, there'd be a list of all games that would fall under that label and a checklist for

- Basic info (title screen, release dates, dev/publisher—breakout box shit)
- Basic gameplay
- Different cars/racers/whatever plus screenshots
- Different tracks plus screenshots
- Any special modes or notable features
- Credits
- Box and cartridge scans

That way, there'd be something concrete to see what to do. Obviously, people would still be able to edit whatever they want if they weren't interested in the theme, but I'd probably give an achievement or something for working on the theme of the month. People could suggest the next month's theme and vote on it.

Does this interest anyone?

I'd like to help with Sega Retro, but honestly, it's a "lot" of ground to cover. I wouldn't know where to begin. Which I think is half of the problem. I like the idea though; it narrows down your options for the time being and instead of feeling like "There's a wiki about all of Sega's history, where do we start?", it turns into "I know a few things about this particular area, might as well help this time". Of course, this is stating the obvious... v.png

In short though, good idea and I approve. (For whatever it's worth)

I think this is a good idea. I try to help out with SEGA Retro, but there's just so much that it daunts me, and I never know where to start. Having some sort of persuaded direction would help greatly.

Sounds like a fun idea to get people to focus on one thing. So far all I've been doing is scanning manuals, box art and snapshots of title screens here and there. Having a sort of focus on one aspect would settle me down and actually do some research and play testing.

I think it's a rather good idea. Sega Retro is a big place, so any organization would help exponentially. I would probably be able to help out more with this in place.

I am completely down with this idea myself. I have a few manuals/boxes I need to scan yet.

I'd go for this, yeah. So far my contributions have been rather diverse and unfocused, from late-release Dreamcast games to obscure and bizarre redemption. It'd help to have something to work towards, and my collection's large enough that I should have a contribution for pretty much any theme.

I would probably just edit whatever whenever anyway, but I guess it could be a nice way to motivate people and get them to do more editing. Something similar for Sonic Retro might be kind of cool too. It could give people who don't know where to start an idea for where to contribute, and it would challenge people who already contribute to see how far they can go in one specific area.

Yeah, I'd like something to help organize what to do. As a suggestion, could you make one of the months the Sega 32X? The system has only 34 games yet is only a 1/3 of the way complete even making articles for the games, let alone expanding them.

Concur.
It's much nicer editing when you're editing with other people, as opposed to just plodding away in some obscure corner of category space all on your lonesome. A scheme like this could encourage co-operative editing, which would hopefully improve quality AND quantity.

Actually, the 32X theme sounds like a good way to kick things off—wanna do that?

I don't see why not, starting things sooner and with a definitive way to go certainly helps, in my opinion.

Sure, go for it. Getting a system complete would be a great way to kick this thing into gear.

I will say this though. The current gen console pages NEED to be updated.

They are VERY outdated.
