On that note, Ecco 2 has interesting swimming but it got very boring very quickly and I put it down after navigating through those first set of rings. Same with Revenge of Shinobi. For me, you have to get me interested at the start, even if you save the best for last. Neither of those two games did that.

I'd be able to critique Popful Mail if I knew what to do on the fucking first level after meeting that guy that makes Mail angry argh.gif

Agreed. If they explain their case I'm fine with it. Just as long as they've at least TRIED to play it before saying "this game sucks." Yeah, there has to at least be minimal reasoning behind it. (I.e. lousy controls, insane difficulty, bad story, bad acting, etc.)

@andlabs Meh, Revenge of Shinobi isn't exactly friendly to new players, even on the easiest difficulty settings.

The Ecco 2 CD, well its just the same as the Genesis/Mega Drive versions except for FMVs and a soundtrack by Spencer Nilsen that was ruined by not following the original synth mixes of the Genesis/Mega Drive versions. I'm dying to see the game with remixes of the Genesis music versions. The Sega CD soundtrack is enjoyable to some extent but its definitely not the best of Spencer Nilsen's works IMO. I think he should stick to using electric guitars personally. It just seems to be the thing he excels best at. Especially when he mixes synth or out of the ordinary instruments with it.

Regarding Sonic CD's US soundtrack which Nilsen composed, I personally think that he did a great job on trying to make it fit. I kind of like the soundtracks from both regions because I just seem to be a huge fan of both techno, pop, and, rock. Though, I'll listen to just about anything as long as it comes from a video game. There are exceptions of course but for the most part, the previous statement is true.

Also, darn it, I forgot about downloading those games.... better go do that..... *runs off to rom site*

What? I'll buy them when I get the cash. I did it with the other games I downloaded and I'll do it with these.

Edit: Hey guys, Lunar has a sequel. So if you happen to enjoy Lunar, you might try its sequel.

I actually paid $30 for my complete mint copy of Lunar and $50 for a complete mint condition copy of Lunar 2.

I actually haven't got around to playing any of my Sega RPGs yet besides just trying them out but after I clear the original four Dragon Warriors and three Final Fantasies (I got translated repros of 2 & 3) on NES, Phantasy Star for SMS is what I'll play 8th. After that I'll probably go for Phantasy Star II, III, IV then Lunar and Lunar 2 in that order. So it will definitely take me a while to get onto my Sega CD unless I want to do more runs of Sonic CD in between RPGs. If I choose to do the action RPGs Neutopia and Neutopia II for TurboGrafx-16 before jumping to the true 16-bit Sega it might take even longer, and wait I forgot Golvellius for SMS which is another action RPG like Neutopia and Zelda. I might as well do that one when the SMS is hooked up.

Arrgh my backlog is just too big. I'll just have to take this one game at a time. The point is I will get to Lunar on Sega CD someday. I just have no idea how long that is going to be.

Snatcher is my favourite game of all time and the Sega CD is the definitive version of the game.

I will own it one day.

Seeing as this *is* Mega CD discussion, has the compression algorithm for the Sub-CPU BIOS for the Sega CD ever been discovered? (If not, I will utilize the Sega CD BIOS disassembly to find it :P)

Apparently somebody either hasn't watched the video in the first post, read the other posts, is stubborn, has poor taste, is trolling and doing it badly or they just don't want to put forth the effort to look up what titles are good or bad and want to just say they are all bad based on experiences with overrated FMV titles.

Seriously, if you haven't, read through this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_CD_games

There are hidden gems in this treasure box and you'll find them if you at least look first. Also, for an awesome Sega CD game, look at my Sig.

Meh, I still have a few EC CD videos I haven't shown yet:

Its not an enhanced port of the Genesis game, Eternal Champions either. Its an enhanced and more balanced sequel with new characters, playable final opponents and other unlockable secret characters. Hell you even get to fight as a chicken and a freaking monkey for crying out loud. (and they aren't furries either. They are just a regular Chicken and Monkey) In other words its a console exclusive that was released close to the end of the Sega CD's lifespan when nobody was paying attention to it. This was a great game... I just didn't get noticed. Similar to how the Genesis games Ooze and Comix Zone didn't because of the Saturn. Kind of sad. It was going to have a third game for the Saturn but sadly...... it never came to be because Sega of Japan forced the devs to stop production even before it started out of fear of competition with Virtua Fighter.

It isn't even called Flying Squadron because it's a platformer, not a shoot'em-up (reminder: find out what was exactly the name of that game).

Keio Yuugekitai is the japanese title, which technically translates to Keio Raiding Party or Keio Commando Unit.

Flying Squadron is pretty accurate.

One thing I could never figure out how to do is burn a working copy of a Sega CD game. I came pretty close to getting it right, I even burned a copy that worked if you let it load for like 5 minutes! I don't remember where to get the correct ROM files to burn copies so I can't even attempt it anymore now that I have better media. :/

My co-worker and I trade Sega CD games all the time. It's nice working with someone cool enough to own a Sega CD too.

I know the laser may not be powerful enough for some writable CDs, and you might have to burn in image mode (not just files and folders).

You need to burn it in image mode, firstly because of the Mega CD header, and secondly because in the case of Megamix it doesn't even use the ISO9600 filesystem. The BIOS merely does raw things like reading sectors and such, reading the filesystem is up to the game, so you could even end up with a single CD containing both a PC and a MCD version of the game if you wanted, or a custom filesystem, or whatever.

I've got a Model 2 Genesis + Model 2 CD + 32X, and a CDX. I agree with some of the OP's selections, and not with others... everyone has their own tastes.

1 - Earthworm Jim: Special Edition
2 - Silpheed
3 - Battlecorps
4 - Wonder Dog
5 - Sonic CD
6 - Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
7 - Ecco: The Tides of Time

I'm not much for RPGs, FMV games, or Fighters, but I do like fighters more than the other two.
