1920x1080 in this case, Volpino

That doesn't help, I guess I should figure out what my screen-size actually is and get back to everyone. specialed.png I'm fairly certain it isn't that big though, and my concern is mainly if the game will function properly on my PC even if it isn't built for high-end graphics. In addition, will this function on a laptop?

Widescreen laptops usually have a resolution of 1366x768, which means you won't be able to view it at full resolution. Regardless, I'm sure the window will be scalable, as we're not in the minority.

Oh yeah, I need to know this. I hope this is being tested.

Any chance of the new programmer coming on here and introducing himself?

I'd also like to ask whether this will work with ~720p laptops. I'm running one myself. It's pretty powerful, good enough to run Sonic Fan Remix at fairly high resolutions. But I'm just curious whether Sonic 2 HD will even SUPPORT resolutions below 1080p.

Oh no, I hope it runs faster than remix! I can't get remix to run smoothly at full screen on the lowest setting, and I think S2HD has to be full screen. Let's hope the fact SFR has 3D graphics means it runs slower than S2HD.

Not to crush your hope, but the S2HD Staff has said that this game uses 3D hardware. If I recall right. sad.png

Ahh christ. Can we have some info on this? Someone must be testing it on laptops.

I don't actually know how good that is though, is it good?

That doesn't tell anyone anything. You're going to need to give more info than "3D business and gaming graphics performance".

I seriously doubt that they can give you accurate hardware requirements at this point in development.

I guess not. Oh well, they said something about engine optimization (I think) earlier, and they are thinking very carefully about not adding too many lagging effects, so that should be good.

I suppose I'm a little overdue for this, so I'll bite.

I had developed the level editor for S2HD (titled simply EditHD) and updated it many times since about October 2008. I haven't exactly kept it a secret, but I haven't really talked about it much either. This is the level editor I made (shown running on S2 disassembly data):

It's only been recently that they actually brought me onto the staff to help with this game more directly. As it stands right now, I will be writing the sound code for the engine.

I'm really excited about this project. I've been following it for a long time, and unlike a few, I really see some promising things with it. I'm happy to be part of this effort.

I thought it was you saxman!

That level editor is very pretty, and I'm glad the HD crew have that at their disposal.

Is that going to be the final interface we'll be using? TBH it seems a bit of a long-winded way of adding/changing the tiles.

That's what I've been using for quite some time now and it gets the job done. I'm sure there will be stuff added later that helps streamline things further if necessary.

I was thinking we could have a scrollable pop-out menu [via the right click?] of all the tiles displayed at once (perhaps a large square grid full of tiles, to which moving to its edges will scroll it along [or as shown - assuming here - the middle button; but then how will laptops deal with that?]).

It's just an idea, anyway.

This. This right here. Until the alpha has been released and has been playtested on a variety of systems, we can't give the kind of estimates you're after.

And yes, 3D hardware is part of the engine S2HD functions on. I just recently listed why this is the case, per the large textures being used in all the artwork. Just because a game is 2D doesn't mean it won't use 3D hardware -- many of the shaders and effects that S2HD will make use of are built on the capabilities of modern graphics cards.
