And it only took...11 years to make? It's honestly remarkable that Hez was dedicated to his project for so long. The only other Sonic fangame I can think of that was in development for a longer period of time […]

I remember back in 2007-ish when I was but a mere lurker and Hez started this as a mere Sonic 1 remake to prove he could make a less shit version of it than the gba port. It came a long way since then!

I thought it had been a while, but 11 years seems a bit much. I'd be more inclined to believe Jason here, and Hez's oldest video lends some circumstantial support to that date.

For my statement about how long it took to make, I went by what was said on Sonic Retro's front page.

The oldest backup file I have backed up is from 3/13/2005 (031305.cca it's named). It was originally to star tails. I'm more than happy to release it if anyones at all interested, along with all 10 beta's I have stored.

EDIT: It's also really interesting to note that desert dunes is the only level that had not one graphical makeover. It also barely had any layout changes either. Only different enemys. Shit...im interested in my own betas.

I would be interested in seeing the older betas. I'm most curious about Crystal Caverns Zone's beta since the stage idea was originally going to be used for Chaomega. Shame that fangame never went anywhere. Also, what made you change your mind about having Tails the star? Did you just feel designing the game around three characters would make it a better game?

I'm interested in the Betas. Mostly so I can look for gems such as this and this, but still. They'd be fun to check out.

I think those are glitches in the final? I'm not 100% sure (yeah I know, its my own game and I have no idea), but you might ask around how to achieve such glitches. As for the betas, if people are seriously interested I'll upload them tomorrow.

Those are from one of the versions you released right after the initial public release to fix the problems people had with the special stage and other things stopping players from proceeding. The first bug is triggered by the second - keep mashing left and right and B really fast and eventually you'll break the character selection's restriction. If you play as Shadow, you get that first picture. He also makes this and this happen. What I meant by "finding those gems" was finding more like those, just for the funnies.

Sorry to bump but since this is the STHC1 general I figured this was a appropriate spot for this:

MegaGwolf has reviewed STHC1.

Maybe it's because I might be missing something, I dunno, but this game is really laggy for me, I dunno why. :/

it's a really nice game though, I would like to finish it.

The way Multimedia Fusion games work, there's little to no hardware graphics acceleration unless the game is compiled with a special version of the executable and I don't think Hez has access to that. Therefore, all of the graphics rendering, physics, etc. are all handled by your central processor, and Sonic Worlds fangames typically need a minimum of single-core 3ghz to maintain 20-30fps.

Would it make that big of a difference compiled in HWA MMF2? I just updated to 251 btw, is that HWA?

Is that how it works? I've never had a problem with Sonic Classic, but Before the Sequel lags severely on the final set of levels. Didn't know that was what caused it, but I was curious why one would have lag problems and one would work just fine.

I've never used HWA MMF2. And no, HWA MMF2 is like, a completely separate version of MMF2. Like you'll have "Multimedia Fusion 2.exe" and then you'll have "Multimedia Fusion 2 HWA.exe", or something like that.

But again, I've never used HWA myself, either.

MMF2b 251 (might be b252) and above has built in HWA into it. So, there's no separate install for HWA anymore.

I just recently updated to 151, and it says nowhere if it has it or not.
