I didn't even know this game existed until the internet told me a few years ago. When I originally played it on an emulator, I thought it was hard as fuck. I died like 3 times in the first stage. D= A friend of mine convinced me the game was awesome and it was worth playing, so I decided to buy it. ...However, it goes for $30+ on eBay and I don't pay that much for ANY Sega Genesis game. I ended up having my friend trade it to me, for a few Pokemon cards.

Anyway, about the game. It's fucking awesome. Way better than its predecessors, especially Streets of Rage 2 (SOR2 had the worst gameplay of the three, and yes, I know you people disagree for some reason). Although I'd love to see Blaze return in her red dress, silver suits her fine. Poor Axel, his new clothes are ugly though. Skate also looks better in the US version.

Pros (compared to BK3 and its predecessors):

-The gameplay was altered so now it's not a piece of cake anymore.
-You can attack while holding a weapon. Oh my god, Streets of Rage 2 was so annoying because of that.
-Skate, my favorite character, returned from the previous game.
-Beautiful graphics.
-The music was pretty cool. Some of my favorite tracks are Crazy Train (fight w/Jet), Shinobi Reverse (fight w/Yamato), and Dance Club.
-The bosses were cool as hell. My favorite boss is Yamato, even though he gets like nine lives.
-The official art was improved from the previous game (which had hideous artwork.)

Cons:

-The gameplay in this game is unfair sometimes. If one of the yellow punks slides into you, he takes off like 1/8 of your HP. :\
-Mona and Lisa returned and they're still cunts.
-Adam didn't make a reappearance and Skate still sucks.
-Yamato gets 9 lives. What the fuck! At least he's a pussy though.
-The perfect ending is really hard to get. Beating Robot Y is easy; it's just that you have to kill him five times in three minutes.
-It was censored, but the stuff they censored isn't really much to bitch about.

Now, about Bare Knuckle 3. I actually own a cartridge of BK3, and it's really easy. Too easy. The thing I hate most about this game is you get assraped everytime you use a special move without the bar charging up.

Oh my ass! Nostalgia faggots only disagree that the difficulty is a bunch of bullshit compared to sor2 which challenges you by mixing shit up. This piece of fuck did nothing but add life bars, ridiculously up the damage and gave stupid invincibility frames. Better difficulty? bullshit better gameplay? depends on your tastes, sor3 brings faster arcade like gameplay while sor2 was slower paced and simplistic but still challenging. Neither can be better than the other sor3 brings new things, no shit it's a sequel.

They still go into a pattern *which made bk3 too easy in the first place* the only difference as I said above was the unnecessary changes, if they were given a smarter ai like in sor2 *before you even go there, I'm aware of how easy the game is, doesn't mean they don't play smart* It would be more challenging. It's basically back to this sor1 shit where "they're overpowered but once you find a pattern your a god" gameplay reigns supreme

-story, no one too much gives a shit because it's a beat em up, but they could've tried harder if they were going to change shit up rather than just translating.

Ok, so I like Streets of Rage as a series and Streets of Rage 3 is my favourite. It's hard to explain why and I myself and a bit unsure, but it feels more balanced and a bit faster than SOR2. That said, it does have it's flaws and the story is just plain awful.
(Then again, that's because they couldn't use the original story that was used in Japan for several reasons and thus made up one for the Western region. Seems like a last minute replacement job)

Difficulty hasn't really been a problem for myself with the game, I just saw it as a lot longer than the previous ones, with the levels having several sections that don't feel like a small transition, unlike SOR2. That said, some of these sections do drag on for a bit too long (The underground railway for example).

I could go on for hours, but what's the point. I will say that if you want to enjoy this game properly, the way it's supposed to be played, why not check out the "Unofficial" English Translation of the Japanese version?

Actually, I think it's slow and boring. None of the characters can dash (except Skate, who sucks anyway), special moves are a waste (losing HP to use them :\), and none of the bosses were very memorable. The only thing I really liked about this game more than its sequel is how the enemies don't take your health powerups. That really pisses me off in SOR3.

I'd say SOR3 > SOR1 > SOR2.

I found pulling off this game's dash+b type moves quite difficult in SoR2, actually. It always bothered me. And I agree that a lot of the bosses sucked; I think the thing that irritated me the most is that they all came back at the end a few times -- a bit overused there, I'd say.

I beg to differ. I found that SOR2 had a playstyle that fit the levels quite well (although, compared to SOR3, they felt a bit laggy) and only recently played the games. I think it comes down to personal preference - not being a nostalgia faggot. In any case SOR2 >SOR3 >SOR1

Yep I loved SOR3, then found out about the differences in BK3, but I've got a patched SOR3 rom that restores the original character colors, and the BK3 English translation hack. :D

I still prefer SOR2, because of the soundtrack. I hated SOR3's soundtrack, there were only about 2 or 3 songs I liked. The one thing I did like about SOR3 was that it had more of a story. Also I like the fact that SOR2 is more difficult than SOR3. SOR2>SOR1>SOR3, it just wasn't as good as the first two.

I could go on for hours, but what's the point. I will say that if you want to enjoy this game properly, the way it's supposed to be played, why not check out the English Translation of the Japanese version?

SoR3 was way too fucking long for what it was.

This is why SoR2 will always be superior. It knew when to end. It also didn't shove 900 enemies at you before you can progress a single screen.

And in no way did SoR2 have shittier system than SoR3. You can't combo everything in SoR3 like you can in SoR2, plus having directional special moves helped mix things up. (Not the ones that take your life bar.)

If you were really good and knew how to combo everything and mix it up with throws, you could clear SoR2 without ever getting hit. Shit, you could even recover from falls with no damage. Simple beat-em up to those who only know how to mash buttons, a lot more in depth for those who were dedicated on clearly the hardest difficulty with super awesome style points.
