This article on destructoid reveals that Sega has slipped up yet again and someone has downloaded a PR document listing a number of different things in the works. Most seems to be standard stuff, except:

Sonic Anniversary
Could put out collectors edition with all old sonic games on one BD disc.
“Best of Sonic” for around $99.
SCEA would love PSN exclusive power ups/different game modes (like Castlevania's flip it over/backwards)

A Sonic collection to end all Sonic collections it sounds like. $99? This must be a giant ass collection in the works if that's the case. That's it for details though.

I suspect a multi-disc release with most major titles, and putting smaller titles like Sonic Labyrinth/Drift on another disc, all included in one convenient case, or a big boxed set.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, but it's unlikely I'd buy it.

Reading that document, it sounds like we'll be able to play levels from games like Sonic 3 backwards. Sounds great. Even though we already have the "Return to the Origin" hack, this is already a cool idea, and the fact that this modification might expand to other Sonic games makes it better. Other game modes are also planned, too. Perhaps we might finally get to officially play as Knuckles in Sonic 1? We might even get Sonic CD with a region-customized soundtrack. That would be very cool.

Let's hope Sega sees this extra game mode idea through; if they can jam-pack this Anniversary disk with all sorts of cool new mods, I'll sell my Mega Collection and buy this disk for sure! This would be worth the ninety-nine bucks if Sega does this collection right.

Only if it has Sonic '06 psyduck.png

Seriously though, I'l probably buy it. Remember though, it's not coming out 'till 2011, if they wan't to make it for his 20th birthday, which they will. I am guessing it would have all the Genesis, Game Gear, Master System, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic CD (both soundtracks), SegaSonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic the fighters all on one disc. Jam, Shuffle, Adventure 1 & 2, Saturn 3d blast on another disc. They may have a third disc (this is a collectors edition box set remember) that will have all of Sonic's portable outings-- if Nintendo will let them do that of course. If not, only Pocket Adventure would be on the 'classic' games disc.

Dear SEGA,

No one's going to pay $99 for the millionth compilation disk you put out. Shit's getting old.

Lawl $99.

And I bet it won't even have proper sound emulation for the old games, or the Japanese/European soundtrack for Sonic CD.

Super Sonic Ultra Mega Anniversary Collection Turbo EX Alpha 3 HD Remix?

I agree, though—this shit is getting old. If they're looking to make new compilation games, they should add on games that haven't been in previous releases, like Knuckles' Chaotix, SegaSonic Arcade, or any of the Adventure titles. The same shit over and over again with sub-par emulation is not enticing, and it's certainly not a good way to commemorate the series' anniversary. We need something new.

I don't think they were intending for you to take that line so literally.

There has to be a good reason why they would make this $99. Even Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection was only $30. I'm guessing they're either going to either
A. Do a really good job and put extra content into the original games
or B. Include EVERY Sonic game made up to date, or at least up to this current Generation (That's a lot of Sonic. That might almost be a good value)

Seriously, they've made too many collections. However if they make a collection to end all collections, perhaps this is the last we'll see of any such BS for quite a while, possibly ever

Yeah it's not there. Sega took it down because they wanna keep it quiet =).

Anyway: All those ideas for Adventure, Arcade and Chaotix are great and all... But I already posted it above... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Well *I* hope it has Sonic '06 on it... And it gets a Wii port psyduck.png

Still, Eraser would be... nice?

They moved it.

$99 for a compilation seems a bit out of touch. I'm more immediately interested in the possible DLC for ASR. Looks like Wii users may be screwed again!

I am against them releasing the rarer games somewhat, as I feel it is to an extent, shitting on the fans that have purhcased thme first time round. After all if the game is sought after, many fans will have paid a fair bit for it, and will be proud they own something uncommon that not everyone can play. IF the game was unpopular at the time or whatever, why should people be given another chance to ignore it? Those that want these games are likely to be huge fans like ourselves and would put in the effort to search for and find them. They shouldn't reproduce the games making thme so common that everyone has them.

I paid £40 for my copy of Kuckles' Chaotix, I also spent the past couple of years hunting down the rarer Sonic game gear titles. I would be pretty pissed off, if they re-released Knuckles Chaotix, and wasn't pleased when they bundled the whole set of game gear games in with SADX.

Having said that I was pretty chuffed at being able to play Sonic the fighters on Sonic Gems Collection, but I am searching for the original arcade PCB of this, and last year I purchased a PCB of SegaSonic the hedgehog, the Rev A version, however sadly it is a converted board (was originally Spiderman, another game on the Sega System 32 hardware), though I still paid a lot for it and still spent time getting everything needed to make it playable in the way it was meant to be played. (Shameless plug: If anyone is ever interested in selling an original Sonic the Fighters/Championship PCB or an original SegaSonic PCB please let me know, I am interested in purchasing)

Back on topic...point is that, releasing all these games can sometimes to an exten their void the efforts of fans to track down them in their original form. However if they do it for the right reasons it makes sense, to benefit the fans. But releasing the main Sonic games repeatedly, does get irritating, 'cause they sodding know we will all buy it? Admittedly I'll probably love the ocllection if they release it, but it would be better if they spent time on something new.

Sorry my post is a bit...>> words.gif Just venting frustration...
