Is it just me, or does the ballhog look like it's doing this in the video..

..?

Looks like it, or a similar-looking movement anyway. Interesting.

Who would've thought such short clips could contain so many differences? = ) This footage was an amazing find, drx!

The first video shows the apparent debug numbers on the bottom right hand corner but it's not in the second video. The other thing I noticed in the first video was the monitors flashing at a different rate in comparison to the second video. It threw me off into thinking both sets of footage were two different videos at first. Leading me to think the monitors in the first video were like that possibly due to the frame rate of that video until I realized that both sets of footage were from the same CES 1991 video.

I'm quite baffled as to why there are two different builds going on in the event. Great find never the less.

Cool, in a way that ball hog robot suits green hill zone, with the purple flowers and all there is no colour clash.

Any sonic 1 beta is good beta to me, best sonic game ever made :P

Wow, these videos are so interesting! I can't belive how different they are from the final game, especially the Ball Hog being there.

Is it just me, or are there actually two different builds going on here, one in each of the original videos drx linked to? In the first video the water is the same colour as the sky, whereas in the second video it's pale blue like in the final game. It's already been pointed out that Sonic has no lives on the counter in the first video, but, he has 2 lives on the counter in the second video.

Sharp eyes, yeah the water in the first one is a deep blue like the sky, awesomesauce.

No it's not just you, I've just noticed that too. If you look at the high quality video you can also see that the Ball Hogs appear to be facing forwards, not sideways like they normally are:

Wonder if they were intended to drop the ball bomb things below them instead of sideways if that's the case.

Was that sprite actually used in S2ms? I don't remember it.

Going by this version of the ballhog, I believe these were later replaced with the crabmeats as both badniks have similar movements. Just a theory though.

One possibility as to why we're seeing two different builds in the CES footage is that the first clip (as seen in drx's first video) is footage from a promotional video and not so much footage from the event. There's no background noise like it was at the event in that part of the video, suggesting that the people covering the highlights must have had a copy of the promotional video which was then edited into the rest of the CES footage. In the second clip (as seen in drx's second video), you can see it's someone playing the actual game and it's a different build from the first clip; there are background noises and so on.

This is an amazing find, no matter how short. The roulette monitors probably worked like the roulette crates from Crash Bandicoot 3, as some people have said.

Or perhaps those were just placeholders before they decided on the final monitor placement.

Awesome find, drx!

Is it doing that in the video? Doesn't seem like it but it's hard to tell from the quality.
