I agree that it should be on the computer, at least at first. My only concern is that I wish for it to be ported to other operating systems, such as Linux and ppc/intel macs.

There are pros and cons in eveyrthing.
Mega Drive:
Pros: Easy to program, many talented hackers. Nostalgia.
Cons: A lot of limitations (there is no way the Mega Drive can handle 128 colours on-screen, among other things).
Mega CD:
Pros: Great audio. Good graphics effect. Keeps the nostalgia feel.
Cons: Its an unexplored land. Loops.
32X:
Pros: Less limits than the MD. Better audio and graphics than MD.
Cons: Just a little less limits than the MD.
Saturn:
Pros: Good 2d graphics and audio.
Cons: I have no idea.
Dreamcast:
Pros: Very powerful console (compared to MD)
Cons: Unexplored land, and, differently from the MD not everyone has a PC which can emulate it (or the original console).
PC:
Pros: E02, many programmers among members. Can be ported after (still needs some work).
Cons: Many things to acknowledge. Many decisions to take (type of music, type of graphics. You can't chose these things with the other consoles, because the console chose for you).
Its not an easy decision, but I still think PC is one of the best options so far.

Why hasn't E02 been chosen by now?

C'mon, even if it did end up on the MD you just know that SegaSoft would have ported it to the PC anyway.

OK, let me inject this thread with a good dose of reality.
Yeah, you may want an engine that can be played on ten different consoles and is flawless and will work for everyone on every architecture build ever, but there's one huge question that I see in this proposition: who the hell are you going to get to code that? The fact of the matter is that building an accurate 2D Sonic engine is not something that can be done overnight and there hasn't exactly been a groundswell of people stepping forward to show that they could even handle this if that was the direction the project took.
That being said, I'm in the "Why haven't we just gone with E02 yet" camp.

Well, everybody is choosing PC
so, I give up,
We, wait, it's not we anymore, YOU might do it for PC,now, who's gonna code it?

As far as I know, Stealth is going to make a demo with E02 and Dark Phantron will make a demo from scratch with C++ and we'll have to choose which would be better to do the job.

How about, we make it primarily as a PC game. As a start.
THEN, after the PC version is out there and finished, THEN we can think about console versions.
Cos' I'd like to see a console version, but PC's obviously are the most powerful of the machines is question.
(though a small request, would the possibility of a mac version be out of the question?)

I hope so, and same with the Linux. I have a PC, but I don't want anybody to be left out from a game that seems like it's going to be THIS good.

Let me kill this discussion.
No Mega Drive.
No SEGA CD.
No Commodore 64.
E02 only
Final Destination.
Again
We are using E02.
I don't see how this is even still being debated. An engine has already been developed that has everything we need. Now all we need is for people to work with it.
If someone else thinks they can do better they can go ahead and try, but we are sticking to E02 and we are doing all our work in order to fit the engine.
If there is anyone that disagrees, I don't really care. Right now, we need people to get acquainted to programming for E02. If you don't want to contribute, then go away.

Who the fuck deleted my post? I have a serious objection to anything non-Genesis. Name one Sonic fangame on the PC that has 100% accurately reproduced the Sonic engine.

I wouldn't have deleted it if your post weren't written like a retarded school kid.
Save me a headache and just read and test this.
