If you're looking for musical help, I would highly recommend getting help from DalekSam. His music conversions are some of the best I've ever heard.

^ DalekSam has his own project at the moment. To be clear, I'm not begging for help and will seek it if I deem that I'm putting in enough effort to not feel like I'm unloading work on other people. I'm just making it clear that I'm a single guy working on a project instead of a team. I've been on teams before—I'm still involved in The S Factor and did three act layouts for the previous release—but Sonic 2 Retro Remix has basically become a solo project and will likely be that way for the foreseeable future.

Since I feel I should clarify - if Thorn comes to me in the future and asks for something I'd be happy to oblige, Retro Remix is one of my favourite hacks, period, and it'd be quite an honor to be featured in it, but right now I do indeed have my own projects to focus on and not all of it is ROM hacking related either, with my time being very swamped right now and trying to build a profile in the EDM scene. It's up to Thorn if he wants to seek outside help. ;)

I knew that it was up to him - I was just giving a friendly recommendation since you're one of the best people out there that I know of. ;)

It's pretty clear at this point that the project isn't going to be advancing much in the future. That said, with SEGA now allowing ROM hacks on Steam, the chance to do a minor update was too good to pass up. If you own Sonic 2 on Steam, you can get the game here, and if you don't own it there, you can grab the game here.

The game has savestate compatibility now since Sonic 2 mods on Steam cannot access SRAM, and in fact I would suggest that as the primary way to play, as there's nothing SRAM offers this game that savestates don't. Other minor updates include the ability to play as Tails and Knuckles in acts that are completely cleared, a few level design tweaks, and a few secret mini-acts in lieu of secret boss battle acts. Other than that, there's not much to write home about. I just had to try to become Steam famous~.

So wait, I did a video of this hack just the other day, and now there's an update? Typical timing =P

^ Yeah, I saw your video last night and laughed a bit about that. Again, though, it was a minor update and your video still shows the point just fine (although you should grab that update anyway, even if it's not compatible with the old version's save file). Your video was a really enjoyable watch as you had a gradual transition from "wtf is going on" to "Oh wow look at all of this stuff I'm finding!", and even if the game didn't end up being your cup of tea in the end, the video was very genuine and I appreciate that.

I have a whole 9 positive ratings on Steam! I am getting so Steam famous~!

No worries. I may just do that. Build up a collection on Steam. Looks like someone has also posted your ROM? So it's on Steam twice.

In case anyone missed my video:

EDIT: Ah, you've commented on that unauthorised upload. Cool, you're already aware.

Ah an update. I put this on my flash cart and am playing it again on my Genesis. I forgot how brutal this hack is at times and I'm only in cascade Valley.

^ Somebody had to make a hard mod that didn't just hit you with a bunch of cheap shots. HARDCORE PLAYERS ONLY. :v:

Sonic 2 Retro Remix is the second-most popular mod for all of SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics this week! It's happening; I'm becoming Steam famous~. There's no way I can beat Knuckles, Knuckles & Knuckles—I've already talked about what a fool I am for making a new game instead of adding a single feature to an existing one—so I'd say this is about as good as it gets! I'm not sure who sent me 150 page viewers and 45 more subscribers overnight, but if you're out there, you're awesome. :)
