Like it had a gradient that wasn't fully deleted or something. It's subtle. I thought there was a smudge on my monitor.

I tried my hand at it, not sure how much better (or worse?) it is:

I think that looks good, although the letters look a bit... blocky. The gradient looks nice, though.

I'll admit, I like that one the best. The fact the gradient is only seeable where the Sonic 2 HD text is gives it a nice polished look.

it kinda has a blurry look to me, namely over the triangles on the red piece

Would it be a good idea to have a gradient on the text or just leave it plain white?

The effect I gave it makes it jump off the "page". Plain white is too flat.

I really like the lettering effects. The yellow gradient may be too much.

I'm not sure that adding gradients in there is a good idea. The Japanese Sonic boxart tried to keep plain colors because that was the intended style, and the title cards were reflecting that style.
It feels a little like trying to change everything just for the sake of it, even if it wasn't needed to begin with.

I agree with this.

No! Stop trying to make everything flash and using 5 million colors!
As far as I'm concerned, the first post in this thread was perfect, exempting the incorrect title card font (which was being fixed up). Other than that the title cards are done. Seeing those useless gradients makes me sick.
