I think if we're going to use any specific type of gradient or shading style, it should be the one used on the official art. That is how Sonic should be drawn.

Your attempt at gradients isn't too bad, but the rough shading style from the original sprites is still pretty glaring. Perhaps the range of colors should be even wider?

Gotta say, while I'm ambivalent to the eyes, the colour change is unnecessary. It looks somewhat like the artwork, but it looks wrong on the sprites. Considering how annoyed people got at the idea of a pause menu, or the tiniest pixel difference, changing the look of Sonic's sprites is rather bizarre.

I will finally use even more of them, but without any Character Art assistants, I go for the priority mode: shapes comes first than new shades! ;)

The large pupils don't even line up properly, so I don't see how people think it looks better.

The last one is slightly off, but I wanted to make sure the eyes synced up more so than the rest. I imagine a number of us find the larger pupil more aesthetically pleasing simply because it fits the sprites (and by extension, our memories) more accurately. I'm aware of the need to take into account the original art and pixel limitations and I don't want to swear by the original pixels at all times, but for such an expressive part as the eyes, it seems important in this case.

I'll give you a small hint of the uber colored ver I was doing! (than stopped after I realized It would took too much to redraw to all frames):) (I only added slighty larger pupils- and with this I lock myself out of Illustrator until next monsday!)

You can check the smoother transitions were the color lines usually hit the other color.

OOh, nice one Vincent.

The mouth in the previous frame looks like a "bird's eye view of a plateau"
But the "uber" version totally fixes this =D

Yeah, I think the elongated pupils look better. More Sonic-y to me.

Ultimatelly all Sonic frames will look like this :)
(even better,as stated above It isn't finished)

BTW: Did anybody notice that the Tech Demo running frame already uses more elongated pupils? :D

**Character Art helper/assistant - Needed!**

In details to:

-Assist me with Sonic frames and Copy the new shades from the "Sonic uber version" to apply them on the other frames
-Start drawing Tails's standing

If some seriously motivated character artist want to help me out, I promise to teach you all I know in order to do it.
Of course the use of Illustrator is required.

It's getting there SS. Some more feedback:

- Five fingers on the hand looks odd to me because it is too reminiscent of a human hand. Look again at ICEknight's frames and replicate the number of fingers on the hand depending on the frame.

http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/2443/sq...lfinal2xly1.png

(Also look closely at the official art which shows him with four fingers - four suits the animals better for the frontal frame, whereas the side frame just three because the thumb is hidden. Look also at the spacing between each finger in IceKnights frame. The fingers shouldnt be too close together.

- The darker outline around the legs, below the arm pits and around the cheek is too thick.

- His stomach is too wide. Look very closely at the shape of the stomach in ICEknight's frame.

- The feet should be more pig-like, with little trotters.

You've added some more in-between shades, that's an improvement. The mouth and eyes are also improved. The color of his snout is better. Overall, the whole thing still needs more in-between shades, but it has definitely got better. Great effort! Thanks for your work :)

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't been here contributing stuff lately. I just started school a few weeks ago, and I've been pretty busy with that. However, now that I've settled into my schedule, I'll get back to making some stuff for this project.

If I may, I'd like to request that the Knuckles frame in the first post be removed, for now. That frame is extremely outdated, and I don't think it goes well with the style of the rest of the current artwork. I'll definitely be working on Knuckles more in the future, though, and I can make an updated version of that frame, if you'd like.

That would be great SJ! I'll remove the frame from the first post as per your request.
