That just gave me an idea, make two versions, one without the blur and one with. Remember, Sonic reaches his running animation way before he reaches his maximum speed, so I guess we would have a "slow run" (no blur) and a "fast run" (blur) animations, besides the walking one.
And the blur seems OK to me. It could be more blurrish, but I'm not sure if that would look very good to be honest.

Yup, the mutiple blur animations had crossed my mind too - I suppose I could even try a slightly blurred one for the standard run and a more extreme version for the maxed out sprint. I guess its important not to stray to far away from the original but If we have an opportunity to improve then its worth experimenting - theres no harm in trying it out

You shouldn't stay far from the original but also we shouldn't take it too strictly, otherwise it would defeat the purpose of it. After all, the whole idea behind this fangame was to remake Sonic 2 making it look like certain HD hoax, and that one had not only a higher resolution, but a big amount of FXs. So adding blur makes more than sense.

I think the blur is okay but I think it is a bit too much. On the subject of blurring I think something more subtle would be to have the background slightly blurred when sonic reaches his full speed.

I think the blur is a retarded idea and I hope that Vincent will shoot it down

For some reason I said "slow run" and "fast run" animations. The blur should be used only for those ultra-high speeds you reach only in weird cases, like after hitting a red spring or rolling down a steep slope.
But I guess that in this case it would be better to make it to be generated in real-time rather than put in the sprite itself.

By `retarded`, I'm assuming you don't like the idea? From the numerous do's and (mainly) don'ts of this forum, doesn't this come down to `speaking proper english`.. I couldn't give a f*ck what you think if you start off a reply to a concept idea with a ridiculous opening statement like that. All opinions are welcome...that is, apart from yours. It was only an idea so in future if you don't like something, how about putting it a bit more eloquently?
cheers mate.
