A while ago I came across this video from Ashens showing off the lame OutRun LCD game from Tiger from sometime, and today going back to our Climax Entertainment page, I realized they made a Dinosaur King-themed LCD game for Sega back in 2008. So now I'm wondering exactly which LCD games Sega has to their name or how many... I presume this is going ot be uncountable =P I know we have info on Sonic-related LCD games (oh we need two more pictures of two plzkthxbye)... Right now I found this list which I'll go through, but if anyone has ny info 9or even any units) they can show off now that would speed things up, please? =P Thanks. also not sega but wut
Do we already have all the Sonic ones accounted for? I recall Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D Blast Tiger LCDs, as well as the "Amazing Sonic" one, and a Sonic Underground one. There also appear to be Japanese LCD "SegaSonic the Hedgehog" ones. You can see them all on eBay, too, with a search for "Sonic LCD". http://www.ebay.com/sch/I.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Sonic+LCD&_sacat=See-All-Categories A search for "Sega LCD" also gets me results for Virtua Fighter, Altered Beast, After Burner, Outrun, Shinobi, and Daytona USA. http://www.ebay.com/sch/I.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=Sega+LCD
I made wiki articles about all the Sonic LCD games I was aware of. If doubt there are more but you can look if you want. Here's the Sonic LCD game articles. http://info.sonicretro.org/Category:LCD_games
I'm pretty sure I have copies of the Sonic 2 and 3 ones, will have to see what I can dig out. Also, a complete set of the UK McDonald ones.
The only ones I have is the KR McDonald ones, Tails and Knuckles. I'm pretty sure I had others though, I have to dig it out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMm664IdjRI "THE INVINCIBLE CUBE" I hear there's roughly a hundred games based on Sega IPs. Production of these little things was halted after Tiger was bought by Hasbro (1998). So we're talking about roughly a decade's worth of releases. I've collected some images and built a -very- rough list http://segaretro.org/User:Black_Squirrel/Tiger_LCD
One question that just came to mind... Do the Mcdonalds LCD games have a known developer/manufacturer/whatever? I really don't think they were made in-house.
Oooh, 2 of mine you don't have pictures for, and the 3rd can be much improved! I'll scan those in a bit. Fun fact - they ALL have (C) 1988 on the back. I had no idea Sonic 1 and 2 came out then =P EDIT: just found them on Sonic Retro - well, one of them can be improved and the other we don't have a proper shot of, so I'll do those anyway. I've tried looking for mine, but unfortunately I think they've been archived away in one of my storage boxes - these are going to be impossible to get at for the forseeable future, sorry.
I searched for LCD site:sega.jp (I think) on Google yesterday but so much stuff has accumulated in my browser that I have to close a lot of tabs before continuing). http://sonic.sega.jp/20th/item/059/ this is the first result
OK, done: File:GoldenAxe_TigerLCD.jpg File:Sonic1Tiger.jpg My Sonic 2 one didn't come out significantly better, however I bet no-one's heard this before: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/1/14/Sonic2-lcd-theme.mp3 (File:Sonic2-lcd-theme.mp3 )
On a related note, Konami made a tonshit of those Bemani Pocket: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bemani_Pocket See? :P I'd love to get some of those, for 100% real chiptunes :P
The three Sonic LCD toys I found in my room don't say a thing sadly. Unless the "CHINA (insert three letters here) CHINE means" anything.
How pedantic are we going to be about this http://segaretro.org/File:Zaxxon_Tabletop_Coleco.jpg it's not LCD - it's VFD! there are actually quite a few problems with the road ahead. Stuff I'm not sure how to categorise. All this searching for Zaxxon reminded me we have Milton Bradley board games to consider. I mean seriously why is there so much love for Zaxxon - I can barely play the damned thing.
We'd have to have a separate category, unless there's a blanket term for LCD/VFDs. Segment displays maybe (though I think that only applies to digital clocks), or just "LCD and VFD games". Off the top of my head I can only think of Zaxxon and Alex Kidd board games. I bet there are more.
There's a one based on Turbo (which I have somewhere... though I think bits are missing - I'll post this), and a few for Sonic. in other news http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/SkeetShoot.htm http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/Gauntlet.htm http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/Karnov.htm http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/SimonsQuest.htm http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/SubmarineWars.htm Sega distributed Tiger Electronics games in Japan for a bit. I don't know how many, but judging by those product codes... there's probably at least eleven. Could be the entire range. they also made some of their own but at the moment I'm not entirely sure what this is... other than it was released in 1992 EDIT: http://www.sega-club.com/website/de/index.php?article_id=497 now I am
Guess what I found http://www.figure.fm/cgm/ecommerce/figure/images/large/0c08f5a853bbf28fcf8c85166b4ae240.jpg?1300904984 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSXLELIq-dg for an LCD game... this is really quite clever. It was apparently released in 2009, and there's a Pengo one too which clearly exists to spite me as that would make two. these are both made by "Hashy Top-In" EDIT: more Columns http://blog.goo.ne.jp/80-cafe/e/58d3f92d686dfff74e8be729e752f56b Hang-On http://blog.goo.ne.jp/80-cafe/e/f3ea5fc002e6f68722fb31d50c48c3a3
I don't know about the others but the Hang-On above was originally released by Tiger, I know because I had one and the gameplay screen is the same. Tec Toy had a partnership with Tiger to release their LCD games here in Brazil, they were called MINIGAME and this partnership lasted throughout the golden age of Tec Toy (1989 - 1996).
