QUOTE
In the latest issue of Black & White magazine (french publication about Michael Jackson), composer Brad Buxer confirmed that M.J. and him actually worked on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.

QUOTE
B&W: Can you clarify the rumor that Michael had in 1993 composed the music for Sonic 3 video game, for which you havel been credited?

Buxer: I've never played the game so I do not know what tracks on which Michael and I have worked the developers have kept, but we did compose music for the game. Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that's what I did.
And if he is not credited for composing the music, it's because he was not happy with the result sound coming out of the console. At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music...

B&W: One of the surprising things in this soundtrack is that you can hear the chords from Stranger in Moscow, which is supposed to have been composed later...

Buxer: Yes, Michael and I had composed those chords for the game, and it has been used as base for Stranger in Moscow. [...]

Certainly not the reasoning I expected to see...

(I edited the thread title; for the record it used to be 'Confirmed: Michael Jackson DID compose the music for Sonic 3'.

Another dispute bites the dust.

Either way, I'm glad to finally see there is confirmation.

Well then. I guess if we had to associate Michael Jackson with a Sega Mega Drive game it really IS Sonic 3. =P

Nice to see it confirmed officially at last!

Ugh, so this confirms the credits were right: those names actually did write music, and were not simply aliases. And it semi-confirms the credits music; it sounds like either they just dropped the name "Michael Jackson," or Buxer rewrote the parts Michael wrote, I dunno.

You can mock me for not believing your "direct evidence" now. (For the record, I did not believe Michael wrote the music because of the similarities or the DAC samples, but because of interviews like these.)

Not exactly; this is one song.

What I do find funny: neither Buxer nor Drossin played S3K; I wonder if there's something else going on or what.

Great news! Finally we can let this controversy rest. Shame that the YM2612 is the reason MJ isn't credited, though.

Well, before, we were pretty sure Michael Jackson composed music for Sonic 3. Now, our beliefs have been confirmed. It looks like the answer to the question didn't die with Jackson like some feared.

Awesome news that it's finally confirmed.

So that was why Michael Jackson wasn't credited? Because he wasn't happy with the music? That's a little depressing, but at least we know it wasn't because of the allegations.

I think there will be a spike in pant sales to Sonic fans tonight. colbert.png

This just proves that patience is, indeed, a virtue. We waited, and we got the confirmation.

Unsatisfied with the sega sound? What an elitist douche; it sounds great.

Mega Drive.

Anyway, this is pretty cool - and I love how it comes out so nonchalantly. Now, Qjimbo just needs to make one last edit to his years-old video and he's pretty much done with that project...
