Right, this is a fairly basic hack of Sonic 1; just a music, art, palette and layout hack. But what I would like to know just now is if the one layout that I've designed is good enough for me to bother making seventeen more. C&CC on anything else is still welcome, but for now I'll be focusing on layouts.

Although I haven't changed much of it, the music is now
    GHZ: Endless Mine
    Boss Theme: Sparkman's theme
LZ: Thriller Dance (it isn't staying that way though)

Credits to SCAA for monitor art
    Sonic Sanctuary for Thriller
If I've forgotten to credit anyone then send me a PM and I'll add you in.

    Screenshots? Videos? Detailed information?

I can't play this at the moment, but without proper context, I'm not sure I want to.

Well, I like the ghz art and the mz art. The layout for ghz and the art for the boss were cool though. I didn't really like the palette of ghz but the music fits the palette. Good work, just finish more level layouts so we could enjoy the hack. Btw, what is the music for the boss and the music for lz 2? Also, if I play lz music in the sound test and then after a few seconds I click on mz music, I will hear a noise.

Well from what I've played, you've got a nice little hack building here. Certainly liked the new floor tiles for MZ, but feel as though you should revisit the GHZ tiles and create a new design for them, and lighten up the palette choice of colours as they are a bit too dark. Music choices seem reasonable, and I certainly enjoyed the Michael Jackson's "another part of me" music for the LZ, but you need to get the full track for it and not just the snippet you've used at this time.

Overall I hope to see more from this as I think it can go places. :colbert:

Thank you, and to answer your question the Boss theme is Sparkman's theme from Megaman and LZ is the Thriller Dance section from MJ's Moonwalker.

Uh, hosting your screenshots on mediafire kind of negates the point of putting screenshots up at all...
Also, you should at least open them in mspaint and save them as PNG instead of uploading them as bmp.

I'm really digging the new layout and art for GHZ1. There are some minor issues here and there, but it's great nonetheless. Also, I like the spring leading you face first into a spiked wall right before the signpost. Biggest video game troll since Duke Nukem Forever, and I love it.

I'm kinda disappointed by Labyrinth Zone's non-looping BGM though. It plays once, and then it's done. You should find a way to fix that.

Act 2 has now been designed. This time I have tried to focus on exploration but the camera held me back a little. Once again, C&CC are welcome and encouraged. I'm still working on Thriller so I've removed it from this version. In it's place is a somewhat buggy Moonwalker final boss theme so don't take any notice of that.

I think you've put up the wrong rom/link there buddy. I keep getting the same rom you first uploaded.

Marble Zone's new ground art reminds me of Pez candy, seriously.

Not bad, but its more or less recycling what's already there. Lets see some new colors and some completely new directions with it. You're on the right track and you seem very capable of it. Its just a matter of taking the time to do so.

I like what you have here. GHZ's new pattern looks nice and sorta freshm and the layouts are good too. Howevern, I noticed that Sonic comes to a complete stop after places where your speed is pretty high. I'm not very good at explaining, but a good example is how Sonic hits a wall after an S-Bend. Sure, speed isn't always good, but it's nice if levels flow nicely.
Your GHZ palette is a nice change from bright palettes that people seem to like using. Sure, night palettes are a bit of a cliche... It's nice to see you changed the rotating palettes too.
Your music ports are okay. 81 is near-perfect, and I love that song anyway. 82 is a nice try, but you could try porting the whole song instead, unless you plan on replacing it with something more fitting. Your imports are okay, for a beginner. 8C sounds okay, and isn't too bad. However, the lead sounds an octave too high. The voices are okay, but could possibly be replaced with better ones.
Your Marble Zone blocks look pretty good, too. (Forgot about this at first, heh. Oops.) They're a rather interesting take on boring old bricks. Literally.
"All-in-all", it's a nice hack, and it's going well. I hope you make some more changes!

I'm afraid this hack has just met a rather large delay in progress: my little brother. He's accidentally wiped most of the data from my computer (I won't blame him, he's only three). Fortunately I had a backup from January but it's still a lot of lost progress. If I really work at it then I should be able to get it back to its current state by the beginning of April though, so not all is lost.

Sorry to and bump and double post but it's time for an update.

I have managed to remake everything that I lost and then do a little more.

    Changes since last version:
    Tweaked GHZ layouts
    New MZ art
    New SYZ art
    Edited boss theme

I am having a slight problem though. A lot of the rings in GHZ won't show. Any help fixing that would be much appreciated. As usual C&CC is encouraged.

To fix the ghz rings click on 0 above the letters in the keyboard when hovering the cursor on the rings, that will set the rings to remember sprite state - YES. Otherwise, I like the art for both mz and syz, have you already tried to editing the background?

Thanks for that fix and no, I've not (yet) attempted backgrounds. I may try one when I finish GHZ3 but don't count on it.

I'm sorry to double post but it's time for another update. S1 Yarmar v1.00b has been released! Grab it here. The only changes from the last version are that there is a new layout in GHZ3 and that the ring bug (the one whereby only some of the rings were showing) has been fixed. Credits for that go to Hanoch.
For those who are interested, here are the level maps for the three acts I have designed.
    GHZ1
    GHZ2
    GHZ3

I already know that the camera around the S-pipe in GHZ3 can be a bit weird so don't bother reporting that. As ever, C&CC is welcome.

Sorry to triple post (I was hoping for someone to reply so that I wouldn't have to) and bump slightly.

Star light Zone has new art! I think this screen shows everything I've changed.

Again, C&CC (on both this and GHZ3's layout) please.
