Connection between "DHZ" and "the desert level"

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by Simon, Jan 27, 2004.

  1. None! Exactly what I have been saying for years, only no one herd me.

  2. You're right! All we have (on the site as far as I can find, but then again I'm blind :P) is the screenshot of the desert level with no text saying what level it is. We've just been assuming that Dust Hill = desert level.

For years? You just joined LAST WEEK. Of course we didn't hear you! And personally, I think DHZ sounds pretty *desert*-ish. There is dust (sand), and, considering Emerald Hill wasn't really a hill, they added Hill to the end, like other zones that they couldn't think of a second name for. Anyone who plays SA or SA:DX: Remember "Sand Hill"?

Dust - Miscellaneous skin flakings, hair and such which cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Sand - Larger silicon dioxide constructs which CAN be seen by the naked eye (although with difficulty).

    Dust is not sand.

Thus, making the "Dust Hill" name suitable for a cavern like Mystic Cave.

what ever name it was, I doubt it was even impelemented in sonic 2 IMO, only the art was made for it.

oh and I completly agree, hill top zone was a stupid rehash and I would rather have hidden pallace any day.

Ever heard the saying "eat my dust"? And, how that has to do with races, where the "dust" means the dirt behind the racer, that is coming up? And what does dirt often contain?

    Sand!!!

Usually that sort of dust is dried-out soil. Not sand. There may be sand there, but it's not exclusively sand.

Besides, "Dust Hill" is more rocky canyon to me. Not sand.

In my opinion, Dust Hill is a perfect name for a Sonic's desert leves. A great part of the names the zones aren't literally. For example:
Sparkling Zone: I think this is a good name for a Sonic's level that is a city very illuminate, and for this reason is the beta name of SYZ IMO.
Clock Work Zone: A name descripted a place with much machinery as SBZ.
Marble Garden Zone: There are a ruins as MZ, not a "garden".
IceCap Zone: Again, this name describes a ice Sonic's zone.
Flying Battery: This isn't a "flying battery", is a flying fortress as WFZ...
Sandopolis Zone: This isn't a "metropolis of sand", are ancient ruins of the desert...

So Dust Hill is a good name for a Sonic's desert zone IMO.

  11. Thee wasn't anything bad about hill top zone, and hidden palace was great! Hill Top is like an easy rest stop after that long boss battle in casino night. Nothing against hidden palace, though.

Everyone`s entitled to an opinion but I personally hate that level. Here are my reasons...

1.) Level reuses tiles from Emerald Hill.

2.) Pallete makes my eyes sore.

    3.) Lame Level Layout.

    4.) Bad Music.

No... HTZ music is perfect. Mostly the bass line.

LOst, you're pathetic. HTZ was an idiotic attempt to save SEGA time and money. I do like the music, and the level layout's ok, but the pallette, I mean, what is there to like about that? To put it short, HTZ is a load of crap. (Except for the music.)

Yunno, OOZ's final music does sound more desterty to me. That's probably the reason why it plays different music in our prototype. But as I said before, I don't think it was ment for Sonic 2 (MD). <_<

Craig Stitt was hired to work on Sonic 2 for the Megadrive. He made the art for Oil Ocean Zone for Sonic 2 on the Megadrive. Oil Ocean Zone was released in Sonic 2 for the Megadrive. Therefore it was intended for Sonic 2 on the Megadrive.

There was NO CONTACT between the team making Sonic 2 and the team making Sonic CD. The two were told what was wanted and made it themselves in their own way. So any links you're trying to make between the two are impossible. Thank you.

Yeesh, everybody is entitled to their own opinion! So don't call him pathetic for having a diffrent opinion.

Anyway, I never hated HTZ, sure they were lazy for reusing EHZ tiles, but the level layout it'self is actually decnt layout. Not the best, but in my mind the layout for HPZ wasn't too much better.

HTZ. The level looks kinda dull. Perhaps those orange things in the background were a beta pallette of the level. Seems Kinda stange since theres no blue things in the background but no orange fixed platforms. :(

  19. perhaps the orange things are far off in the distance.

The only thing I liked bout Hill Top was the music. It gets stuck in my head....

But, it was a pretty lame level overall. I feel rather bored and unfullfilled after every time I play it....

It reminds me of some 200 miles car trips.... that's how I feel playing it....
