Honestly though, IMO Werehog gameplay with more platforming would suit Knuckles well.

What was I was supposed to do again?

You'll have to figure out how to substitute or compensate for that Stretch Armstrong / Kratos combat system though. Chaos (especially the 2 emerald version) can fit right in with that system unchanged.

A Knuckles brawler would be a great change of pace. It can be something that today's Sonic Team can hang it's hat on, and it's pretty unique in this day and age.

I used gifexplode on that gif and the clearest frame I could get was this:

Just wondering, where is this image from? It doesn't look like anything I've seen or played, hell I'm not 100% sure it's from a game (still pretty sure though). What is it?

I won't lie, I bought it for a hot second. Kinda worried that, despite the date, people are going to believe and spread this, though.

Before I clicked on that link, I thought this might've been an April Fool's joke, lol

I also think a Knuckles brawler would work - just take out the closed-off "Action/Fight Areas"; it really took away the immersion of being in the envornment with those ugly forcefields stopping you until you've killed all the enemies.

Here's something I haven't seen been discussed. Do you guys think they'll give Classic Sonic a voice this time?

I honestly hope so. He was really expressive in Generations but I think there was time where he needed to talk.

I doubt it, it was pretty clear that they were deliberately playing it safe in Generations on the topic of classic's voice.

I wanted Classic Sonic to be mute in Generations, but the way they handled it wad pretty awful, not least because they gave both Classic Tails and Classic Eggman voices. I'd rather he was voiced too that leave him as a strangely silent protagonist. It doesn't work for someone like Sonic at all.

Better get jaleel white to voice classic Sonic this time around, complete with awful catch phrases.

    WAY PASSED KEWL!!!

    Lmao! I would love for Jaleel White to reprise the role of voicing Classic Sonic. I mean, it makes sense. The problem, is the appeal of Sonic's projected tones coupled with 90's edginess in written lines, doesn't bode well in these current times. Could it be pulled off? I believe so, but it's too risky ^-^;

Or get the Sonic OVA voice actor.

I don't mind Classic having the Link silent treatment either. I just find it jarring at times when everyone can talk (including his modern iteration), except for him.

Either way, I think it's something that can be aware of itself and be made fun of in context (in spite of this game's more serious premise).

Classic Sonic never really talked in the games, so they'll keep him silent.

Sonic CD's 'I'm outta here' is an easter egg but it's not counted :P

Actually Sonic said several phrases in Sonic CD. He said "I'm outta here!", "Yeah!", "Yes!", and "Alright!" lol. Sonic also spoke quite a bit in the Japanese Sonic Arcade games such as Waku Patrol Car, Cosmo Fighter, Popcorn Shop, and SegaSonic Arcade. Plus the OVA movie as well. Sonic always spoke it's just that in the classic Megadrive games there was no speech or dialogue. Hell, even the Sonic 1 Promo art has him saying quotes such as "My name is Sonic!". In terms of Sonic Forces though I think he's going to be silent like he was in Sonic Generations. I don't mind him being mute and I also wouldn't mind if he had a voice.

Someone mentioned earlier about how it comes off kind of strange when everyone is speaking including his future self yet he cannot and I kind of agree. I couldn't help but feel this way at times with games like Breath of the Wild for Zelda as well. Link has always been mute and it was never really a big deal but once everyone else started speaking with voice actors it kind of comes off as odd when he never has any spoken dialogue in cutscenes lol. The same can go for Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations but I can understand why Sega might have decided to keep him mute. They wanted to play it safe, afraid that they might upset fans if he was portrayed the wrong way or not voiced well. Although, even when mute he had a lot of attitude that came out in his expressions and body language. So either way, I'd be happy if he was mute or if he spoke. It doesn't really matter to me.

Also, I grew up on the classic American cartoons such as AOSTH and SATAM but I really don't think Jaleel White's voice would really fit the game version of Sonic. I mean, I love those cartoons and they are a huge part of my childhood but they are incredibly corny and cringy now and to be honest hard to watch as an adult. The 90s cheesy dialogue too lol, I don't think I'd want to hear Classic Sonic in Forces say things like "Way Past Cool!", "Gotta Juice!", or "Gotta Speed Keed!" Just...no! lol. So cringy and corny!

Yes, based on all those examples, I get the impression that Sonic Team would have wanted to have Sonic talking if the Mega Drive allowed for it.

Personally, I hope Classic Sonic does talk. Otherwise, they have to have Classic Tails do all the talking, and just makes Classic Sonic seem like he has some phobia about talking.

If they put Classic Sonic in a situation where he doesn't have to talk, then that would be a different matter. But in Generations at least, they wanted him to take part in the dialogue scenes, which meant they had to use Tails as a substitute, which just felt strange.

Tails in general has been assigned the role of narrator for years, so it's not that strange having Tails explain things for Sonic.

All I want/need is for changeable level tracks to return, and the Sonic Underground theme to be available.

Tails is usually a conversational partner to help with exposition, which is fine.
In Generations, he was speaking Classic Sonic's thoughts, which made classic Sonic seem dumb.
If they don't want Classic Sonic to speak, then they shouldn't put him in such situations.

I think the problem is that there's no logical in-universe explanation for mute classic Sonic. Sure, there's a meta-reason, but that alienates newcomers who wouldn't understand why a lot of people hate the idea of Sonic talking. It's only taken further by how much the character himself spoke in his classic incarnation despite this. That's not to say I need Classic to speak, I could go either way, but like Big Smile said, they shouldn't put him in a point where he'd need to speak if they're just going to have someone else do it for him. It's a similar problem to why I didn't like Hyrule Warriors refusing to voice or personify Link and just having a fairy talk for him. Either speak or don't. Half-assing stuff is the wrong way to do things.

Not that I have an ideal English voice actor in mind for Link or Sonic (actually, how would that work in Japanese? Would Kanemaru just put on a different/younger inflection for Classic, or would it be the same voice?), but I'd rather an attempt be made than not. Jaleel White was never a favorite of mine, and having him voice three cocky candy-colored needlemice in Underground just got grating. Actually, while his overall performance in the OVA was mediocre, Martin Burke is a decent match to Kanemaru's voice itself, and with proper direction might be okay. He also sounds closer to a young Roger than he does any other Sonic, and definitely sounds more like a "young" character than Drummond or Griffith ever could.

If classic Sonic is joined by other classic counterparts of other characters, they should all speak or they should all be silent. Having classic Sonic mute but classic Tails and classic Eggman speak in Generations was IMO some attempt of Sonic Team trying to have their cake and eat it that just came off as a half-assed design decision.
