GHZ Plane Boss A proof of concept I guess you could call this, the concept being the use of a map plane for a boss. Hit the boss on act 3 8 times and recieve your prize! + - WARNING: Terribly produced and cheap boss, I know =P
Haha, nice concept for a boss, I enjoyed fighting it! + - My guess is that the external ball & chain are tiles loaded in the map plane, and their loaded along with an object that changes wether it should hurt sonic, or not hurt sonic, I really want to know how to control Y and Z angles.
A neat little boss you have there. I'm not sure if it was that hard to make it using plane mappings, but it's certainly interesting. I think each sprite has been made by hand, and if it is like frame 3, 4 or 5, make the ball harmful by a simple check in the HurtSonic routine (which would also explain my last sentence). That's at least what I think. I don't think an extra object has been used to make it harmful, more like: "Is location of the ball near Sonic and is the current frame 3, 4 or 5? If yes, hurt him." Since the ball somehow needs an X / Y location, it shouldn't be that hard. Also: You can get hit by the ball even if you're invincible.
Woah! when I played this I was like wt???? where the hell is that coming from? actually I'm stil thinking it =P. Anywho, I thought this was a clever idea. Still buggy here and there but whos complaining. This just proves what can be acomplished if you put your mind to it. Well executed markey.
I'm curious to hear any songs that particularly stand out in Cinossu's reversed frequency hacks. Sonic 2 special stage sounded particularly malicious.
I like Mystic Cave Zone 2 Player, I like it so much I ripped a VGM from the hack. xP To be honest though, Sonic 3 doesn't really have any songs that stood out to me, but Sonic 1 had a few though.
From Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, I think some "jingles" (e.g. game over, act clear, extra life, drowning) sound nice. Also, the competition results theme (a.k.a. NO WAY? NO WAY!) and file select/level select theme are enjoyable. Flying Battery Zone Act 1 is not too bad, FBZ 2 starts off nice then gets annoying. Lava Reef 2/Hidden Palace sounds great, I think. Also, Cinossu only did Sonic 2, I did the others.
I made my first hack today after finally figuring out how to use SonEd2. Its called Sonic 2 No Rings. Just like the name implies, there are no rings in the game. This hack was kinda inspired by Mario, given how in Mario's old games you could get killed in one hit. Well, thankfully for you, I have left the Shield Monitors in, however, some aren't in the same places and some are even added to the Zones. There's also more 1up Monitors around to ease difficulty a bit. Snapshots(cuz you know we all love them): Mercy from the boss Heaven...I'm in 1up Heaven... Yup, I accidentally left a small row of rings on EHZAct1. I tried to go back and edit it, but it SonEd and SonEd2 wouldn't let me fix this error. Please ignore this. This is the only mistake I know of... DOWNLOAD I hope you guys find this hack of mine a little fun and challenging. If anyone knows how I might be able to remove that group of rings I missed in EHZAct1 without having to redo the entire hack all over again, that would be great.
Find the object code for the rings (Something like ObjXX, where XX are hex numbers) and add an RTS directly under the label. That makes the object code return immediately and therefore, disappear.
While I don't know much about the ring system in Sonic 2, I'll assume it's similar to normal objects, and therefore needs to be deleted, not just returned to, or the object shall remain in ram taking up not only a slot, but a bit of processing time too.
It think I might be able to figure that out...but I'm quite the noob hacker. lol So I'm gonna need a hex editor for this? And I hate to ask, but what does RTS mean?
Sorry for the extended n00bness, but how would I go about getting the GEMS sound files in this? And how could I extract GEMS sound files from games?
