Really, it's like people at SEGA are deaf or something.

Not touching this unless it comes in a bundle with actual good stuff.

    Nothing.

There is a Challenge menu where you are thrown into the middle of a game with a specific goal to achieve (Get 5000pts in Columns in an almost full screen, clear GHZ2 in mirror mode in under a minute, beat 2 skeletons in Golden Axe with only 1 health bar left etc)

Er, if you mean 'emulated', sure. S1's barely ever been actually ported.

Seems like Sega didn't try very hard with this one. No Sonic 3K. No unlockables when the last collection had them. And the coolest thing in the game which is Bare Knuckle 3 and therefore the awesome Japanese version of Streets of Rage 3 has sound issues somewhat fucking up its inclusion? Christ Sega you could have tried a bit more with this one to actually make it a tempting purchase.

Happy to give this a miss if I'm being honest. Seems like a low effort cash-grab with glaring and unforgivable omissions. Sega needed to put in more effort here.

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
I meant ported and emulated, really.
(And what about the emulations that add the spindash ? We can't just call them an emulation, right ? )

It's running in an emulator, that's independent of modifications made to the game.

Thanks to the industry, "emulated ports" carries this negative connotation that it's straight emulation of original ROMS with no to minimal game settings available to the player.

It's not even the most ported SEGA game. OutRun is playable on more platforms than Sonic 1 is, and games like Tetris and Lemmings make those numbers pale into insignificance.

Out of curiosity, what does selecting the Japanese version option do for Mean Bean Machine and Decap Attack?

Does it at least unlock the Sound Test for Mean Bean Machine?

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
You can't. Selection is only for certain games (OTOH Streets of Rage 2/3, Alien Soldier, Dynamite Headdy and Ristar). Alas, I'd have loved Puyo Puyo on this thing.

I streamed Sonic 1, 2 & Spinball from the new collection. Sonic 1&2 play as expected, the emulation is okay. I played Sonic 2 in mirror mode. Now that was a challenge! Managed (with quite a bit of difficulty) to get all chaos emeralds. Also, managed to beat Spinball without getting a game-over, but took me forever to beat it. Spinball's emulation felt pretty bad.

The sound emulation was alright. Occasionally went a bit weird.

The Steam version update appears to break mods. Sonic 3 Complete does not show up in the mods list when browsing the virtual shelf. I un- and resubscribed to the mod from the Workshop, but that didn't fix it either. Hopefully they fix it soon.

I'm curious if the PS4 or Xbox One versions share the same input delay the PC version has. Seems like the update they put up on Steam didn't really change anything, just added the features introduced by the console version of the collection. Also it seems like certain games should allow you to swap regions but it doesn't give you the option to do so, like you can't change the name of Revenge of Shinobi to The Super Shinobi.

They're still selling you the ROMs to use wherever you want and that's the part I care about. I just hope they're looking to add more games because it's still the same set of games we've seen for a long time.

The people who made that commercial must have watched a lot of Newgrounds in the early to mid 2000's. lol

Did they talk about releasing more games ? I've heard the Steam version has S3K, this one doesn't, which is baffling.

S3K ? Can't say I ever heard of this game. It does have Sonic 1 though, which is a pretty good deal since you can't play it on a lot of platforms.
but for real can they hurry the fuck up and solve the legal bullshit with sonic 3

  18. How many times has Sega re-released Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles without trouble? Sonic Jam, Sonic Mega Collection, Wii Virtual Console, Xbox Live Arcade, Sonic Classic Collection for DS, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for 360/PS3. How were they able to re-release them those times but can't any more? Anyone got any background for me?

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
It's unclear exactly what's been going on, but Sonic 3 was rereleased without issue until about 2012 or so, and hasn't been rereleased since. There's definitely a clear line when it stopped. As best anybody can tell, it's something to do with potential or in-progress legal action of some sort. Notably, Sonic & Knuckles alone has been semi-unscathed, and has seen rereleases since then (notably on things like AtGames consoles which have S&K but not S3), albeit at a far lower rate than in the past or than 1 and 2.

Unfortunately, if there are legal issues, it really behooves them not to speak publicly about it, so it could be several years at a bare minimum before something is worked out such that Sonic 3 can be released again, if ever at all.

Adamis: The Steam version has it because the Steam version already had it. It's only new releases that are missing it.

People started discussing and finding actual connections between Sonic 3 and Michael Jackson until word got into the mainstream and all of a sudden nobody could talk about it and WHAT IS SONIC 3, HAVE THIS MEME INSTEAD.
