I remember the first teaser for Sonic Unleashed that it would be nice to have it archived at better quality.

(i cant find a better quality video)

This is a fantastic idea to archive all of the videos of game trailers, advertisements, cutscenes ect. The trailers I really want to get in HD are all of the Sonic Generations trailers. There were so many trailers for Sonic Generations that had really nice cutscenes in them that ended up not being used in the actual game. There were even some Japanese Sonic Generations commercials that had cutscenes of Modern Sonic running through Green Hill that also didn't appear in the final game. It always bothered me greatly how all of the commercials and advertisements had more story related cutscenes in them than the actual game itself. It'd be great to also archive all of the old 90s Sonic commercials and videos as well but they will be a lot harder to find in HD quality considering their age.

Actually, they're not the same! I don't think NioZero knew this, but the video he linked to has a small difference: the logos at the end aren't the same and are also arranged differently.

Yes, I will take into account tiny things like this. This is the reason why the Sonic Unleashed E3 trailer and the BETA title loop are two separate links.

Thank you, it's precisely this reason why I decided to do this.

I'll be getting to Generations soon, but I have to go through Colors first as well.

As for the 90's stuff, that won't be for a long while, but we'll get there!

Unleashed's development cycle truly fascinates me, as there really hasn't been a recent Sonic game that looked so different from when it was first revealed.
The graphics, the animations, the effects, all of them look really work-in-progress, which is odd when you consider that the game was due that same year. Sonic also looked like he would control to be more tank-like, or at least he'd feel heavier.

Anyways, thanks for documenting all this fascinating stuff! I think Unleashed was the first Sonic game I followed from reveal to release, and it also introduced me to Sonic Retro.

Words can not describe how much I've been wanting an archive of these cut-scenes (especially Unleashed) without relying on YouTube for the LONGEST time. Thank you so much for doing this & adding dual-audio! All that's missing would be soft-subs, then these would be perfect!

Can't wait to see some direct rips of the Sonic CD cut-scenes, only source videos I found were from MEGA Collection where I believe they blended the frames and stretched the aspect ratio? Gems Collection, I believe didn't blend the frames... It's been a while, I don't remember.

BTW Thanks again dude, keep up the good work!

EDIT: Will you be including extra scenes such as the Werehog transformations?

Hm, could this be what you're looking for? It's a custom DVD that a guy named TheBuilder made years ago with allegedly the highest quality versions of the opening and ending. I'm not totally sure if it is, though. I haven't checked this DVD for years and I only just stumbled upon this today because I thought it has disappeared off the web and my original external HD that had it has died last year. I was going to rip CD's cinematics from Gens and Mega Collection myself anyway.

Speaking of that, not to toot my own horn here, but I have something that can hopefully add to this topic. I have been ripping, recording and collecting many Sonic cutscenes myself for years and have set up an entire Mega folder of the stuff from various games ready to go. I hope it helps.

    https://mega.nz/#F!d8w3UKhB!Lp-_HBAlGVMaoC9kjsuFZA

It's not totally complete though, a lot of the in-game stuff from games like SA2 and etc. is missing and I can't record Sonic 06 stuff yet (recordings from the 360 version at 60 FPS with no subs would be nice), but I can still record from any Sonic game I can play on a computer and provide nice quality in-game cutscenes by request. Most of these also have no audio as this folder was originally intended for video editors that make Sonic fanvids/videos in general that have Sonic footage in them who probably don't need audio from those cutscenes that much, but I can provide those too, English or Japanese.

The folder also has a little readme which also lists some players you can use to play these videos in (MPC-HC is probably the best of them all, though mpv and VLC are not so bad either).

Oh and, free membership sucks. Just saying.

I remember my first Youtube account got banned because I posted the leaked Unleashed trailer on there. Don't think there was any way to dispute it back then. Got like 200,000 views at the time too!

Thanks, I'll see if there's anything in there I'll use.

As a clarification: Yes, I'll get to just about everything!

That being said, there's one video I have that I will not upload. The reason being is that SEGA and ichi-london have an some sort of embargo/strict licensing regulation on said video, the only one I am aware that has such restrictions.
Unless things change, I won't share it.

But other than that, anything goes.

It'd also be great if someone still had some of those cool original quality trailers/teasers like that old, old Sonic and the Secret Rings teaser when the game was still Sonic Wild Fire. Remember that?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU1Or-tEvX4

I'm pretty sure there's no possible way to get it in HQ now, but maybe someone out there still owns the original MOV file (or was it a mov? they typically like to use movs).

Thanks for upload! I ripped the video files from the .iso with MakeMKV.

Unfortunately, this DVD ripped the source videos from Sonic Mega Collection, as it has the sped up video with the blended frames which ruins the animation quality. As well, the Bad Future scene is missing in that .iso because it wasn't included in Mega Collections' movie menu. Also, there's multiple copies of the same video with different audio instead of all the audio sources being in a single video. In addition, the pencil sketch test was ripped from Sonic Jam, not Sonic Gems Collection.

If you can provide a Gems Collection rip with all the audio sources, that'll be great!

    EDIT:

For the intro animation, I believe there are 4 audio sources:

    - Sonic Boom
    - You can do anything
    - You can do anything (Sonic Jam version)
    - You can do anything (Sonic CD 2011 remake instrumental)

For the Closing animations (Good + Bad Ending), 4 as well:

    - Sonic Boom (credits version)
    - Sonic Boom (credits version) [Instrumental]
    - Cosmic Eternity
    - Cosmic Eternity (Sonic CD 2011 remake instrumental)

But yeah, the DVD is outdated.

    ALWAYS Sonic the Fighters
Somewhere on one of my old drives I have a beta Sonic Rush promo ad which only aired though a TGS site which used a type of rtmp protection along with an aspx file. Is that the kind of stuff you're looking for?

I found a .mov, but probably not the one you're thinking of.

    https://mega.nz/#!X1lAUYKT!Jmq9UTLj6VbYY8D4NH3ixsKYidBs2u5LW2yBuKzEa8o

This is the highest quality version (14 mb) of the trailer I found but unfortunately it has a IGN watermark.

Okay, here's the Gems Collection rips. The audio stuff is separately placed in the audio folder. You can play the ADX stuff with foobar2000 with the vgmstream component and even convert them to something else with foobar2000 itself if you so wish.
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2A5OEdETEZjbllIRVpjazJTd1k

Unfortunately the frames are blended on all versions of the ending, including this one. I'm not sure why this could have happened (awkward 23.97 to 30 FPS conversion, I guess?), but one could wish for a future HD bluray remaster of some sort that fixes this. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the pencil test in Gems is ripped right out of Sonic Jam but upscaled. It's just as blurry and low quality, but in 480p this time. Woo-wee.

Thanks for the Sonic Wild Fire teaser, by the way. It's probably the highest quality one around so far. I could have sworn I've seen some kind of mov file somewhere a long time ago that did not have the watermark, though. Oh well!

    Life.
Wait, the Gems SCD videos aren't just from the (old) PC version? I'd always assumed they were, and maybe just upscaled a bit.

Thanks for the Gems rips! It seems the frames are blended here as well but at least it isn't as bad as the MEGA collection ones. I could've sworn they weren't blended. But at least both endings are available, separated, and not sped up like in Mega. Shame about the Pencil test too.

Also, thanks for teaching me how to convert the audio, but I have no idea how to handle the .SFD files. I can mostly view it in VLC at least but with no timeline control.

Crap, sorry. Forgot about those. I just encoded them to mp4. These SFDs come out as ugly and screwed up rainbow pixels when put in a video editing software anyway. The same link should have the updated videos.

In general you can play sfd files like this with either MPC-HC or MPV players. MPC-HC in particular is pretty cool because it's capable of playing all sorts of things, including this giant vault of Sonic cutscenes of mine.
