I hope this isn't against the rules - since the links on the OP no longer appear to be valid, does anyone have a collection of the 3D models within generations in the .model format (and any animations) - the only ones I have found are in .DAE format which don't seem to want to play ball properly with 3DS Max (they have broken skinning and the textures don't import correctly).
  2. In Topic: Embedding / Launching Emulator Within Application

After much of a delay, I wanted to present my findings.

RetroArch is amazing! I was originally attempting to achieve this using a different portable media player which could boot and play emulators but sadly hit a pitfall very much like my original post whereby it didn't feel like a smooth seamless transition and felt more like a tacky bootloader. RetroArch however seems to integrate emulators seamlessly into the interface and works smoother and quicker, which is a bonus.

I guess it's mission accomplished so I'm happy for this thread to be locked or disposed of however the mods see fit :)

This looks awesome. I'm always interesting in electronic hacking projects but have never actually got into them due to lack of knowledge, but I am always fascinated that things like this can be done.

So, as per the OP said, do you literally just load up a VGM file and this little parses it and plays it as accurately as possible. Do you think there would be any loss in sound quality through the parsing process?

Like Overlord, depending on the price I may have to pick one of these up.

Since you have taken the time to write this well constructed reflection, I'll take the time to respond.

I have to say that I do very much agree with a lot of what you are saying; version 3.0 felt like a much more complete game whilst version 4.0b felt very much more experimental but stable.

I remember back when version 5.0 was leaked - I never did download it (at the time I believe I did so out of respect for the creators) but I have seen videos and it does look very fun. It certainly has build upon the momentum which version 4.0b created and looks very promising.

I think it is incredibly interesting to see how Megamix has evolved over time and in my opinion, the transition between version 3.0 and 4.0b is where the game started to feel less like a Sonic hack and more like an entirely new game itself. I am incredibly interested to see what the future holds for this hack in regards to design choices, implementations and how much the team can really push the technical limitations of the Genesis / Mega CD.

    Background mountains redone by me
(still not done though. Wanna touch up the mountains and fix the grass on the edges of the tileset!)

This looks absolutely gorgeous. The addition of the treetops has definitely solved the issue of the line dividing the trees and mountain in the background.
