Tech-heads! Can anyone recommend a good graphics card for me that isn't hideously expensive? Looking to upgrade from this rather limited Intel HD Graphics 2000 chipset I've been using since 2012. As far as I know it's all AMD and nVidia nowadays, right?

Bear in mind that I'm not aiming to run the latest and greatest FPSes on this desktop as bulky games like all the AAA stuff nowadays just aren't my bag. I'm partly hoping that getting a proper gfx card will fix some niggling issues I've been noticing in certain emulators (such as this still recurring issue) and older titles.

Thankies!

GeForce GTX 1050 is the minimum of what you can get. Of course the more buck you spend, the better the card but even this one would play a most if not all of games.
Amd has a lot of driver bugs.
Nvidia has an awesome screen recording software that captures the screen in realtime in h264 without using your system resources. It even records 4K @ 60FPS.

Do all gfx cards nowadays have decent OpenGL support? Would it, for instance, allow me to use OpenGL in Yabause?

People swear blind that they've been able to use that emulator's OpenGL renderer, but everytime I try to enable it, the emulator always crashes. No matter whether it's an official build, SVN build, or one of the uoYabause builds.

Most modern GPUs will have good OpenGL support, though I'm not sure if AMD or nVidia is better for OpenGL. AMD tends to be better for people on a budget, but as stated above, their software can be often not as good as nVidia's. Personally, I've had no problems with OpenGL with my GTX 1070, so I'd highly recommend a card in the 10 series. However, I have also heard good things about the latest Radeon R9 cards. That said, I've never used Yabuse, but I imagine a modern decent GPU with good drivers will work fine.
