Looking really good! I very much enjoyed this hack in the Hacking Contest, and I always did like that style of bonus stage from the Master System game so it's nice to see it here and fleshed out a bit.

I think the video Painto posted needs more views... That Special Stage looks awesome. Good job, pal!

Looks pretty cool. I think you should make flame emeralds look more unique, they look a bit too similar to the regular Chaos Emeralds.

I don't think the Flame Emeralds looking similar to Chaos Emeralds is an issue considering in the series itself we have the Time Stones which look pretty much just like Chaos Emeralds.

It was silly in SCD, so why treat it any different here? We criticise hacks for not fixing bugs the original had, after all.

I really like the look of that special stage. It's nice to see a nod to Sonic 1 (Master System/Game gear version) that works in the way it does.

There's a few things that could do with a little tweaking, though. I'll quickly list them here:

  • The spiral bumpers. When they are hit, do they change visually? It's a small thing, but even if a colour flashed, or the art changed size slightly, it would look a bit nicer. At the moment, apart from the sound effect, there's little to make me think they are a bumper, and not just a wall.
  • The monitors are a nice throwback, but obviously, when broken, the remains of the monitor float in the air. In Sonic 1 (SMS/GG), the monitor art disappears completely when broken, so it doesn't look too bad. Maybe it's something you could consider changing somehow?
  • The ring requirement is a little harsh considering the amount of rings available. The time amount is fine, but when it came to clearing the 3rd checkpoint, the ring requirement was 205, with hardly any rings left. It felt more like a later special stage in difficulty (Not the first). Unless it is; in which case, ignore me.
  • The music port isn't too bad, but it's got some strange noises to it at times that are quite painful to the ears (About 2:09 in the video, for example).

However, it's still a very good looking special stage, so good job, Painto maniak. I look forward to more progress on the project.

That was a wonderful remake of the SMS/GG Special Stage, I also appreciate the fact that you actually win something from it unlike the original, the additions such as ring requires, sections, and wall blocks are fantastic additions, they give the special stage a great deal of replay value, good show!

...the whole 2:09 noise thing? I wouldn't be surprised if it were the SFX muting channels that caused it to sound horrible there...

Sorry for the bump, but since this is the thread about this hack I'll post here.

I've just watched some YT video of this hack and I really like the concept of it. The intro story is also something fresh and very well done.
What really makes this hack worth it are the bosses. The art alone of them already makes me wet my pants.
I think the choice of music is generally well chosen (love the spinball music for the bosses) but needs some tweaking as it sometimes sounds a bit raw.
Is this a sounddriver issue or something? I'm no hacker so just guessing.

The drawback of your concept is that most palettes all look the same. That's my biggest problem with your hack.
Maybe you should watch some videos with stuff on fire. Burning stuff doesn't all look the same in color though so you can still vary it a bit.
The haze effect is great though.

The special stages put a smile on my face. You really did a great job there.

Your hack needs some more tweaking, but the backbone of it is already there.
I hope you will find the time to polish and finish it. I'm definitely going to download it and play.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for your opinions. I'm really surprised that people still are interested in the hack (what I appreciate :D). We're working on it really hard to make it as good as possible. We'll take all your opinions to consider. Not sure if we do a release for #sonic25th or for SHC'16.

Using the situation and that it was bumped, I'll post some screenshots of our latest work

Also, here you can find some older screenshots of Boiling Labyrinth Zone.

C&C as always welcome.

I hope you will put a shield monitor at some bosses because one hit and it's byebye special stage.

Can't wait to see what new badnik bosses your team will come up with.
The zone layouts in your hack are good so far so keep that up.

Bump for a reason.

We've finished works on the SHC release of Scorched Quest! It'll be the pre-final one, so there's not really much to do. Here I leave the most original trailer for this thing ever :P

Looking good! I can't wait to stream this one in November.

BTW, to embed on retro, make sure you take the s out of https. It's because of the security or something (whenever I use Chrome anyway).
