So, I finally finished scanning the Sonic 1 & 2 - Sega's Official Player's Guide! Some things first: It was difficult to scan considering the spine is about a quarter inch which leads to the next point... The margins are very tight and some pages have text and pictures that go all the way to the fold in the middle, but I got all the text and 95% of the pictures I also used no filters while scanning. The comic in the beginning looks color correct in person. However Sonic's muzzle is somewhat dull Page 14 is slightly crooked. I noticed this after I compiled the PDF. It's not bad and everything is legible (sorry!) With that out of the way, here are a few preview pics: Here is the PDF on my Google Drive (448MB): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1s6sbNGK_b8ZiABDuBsopWy6FhTVOJ9pS Hope you all enjoy this and have a good read! Now my scanner and I are gonna take a well deserved nap.
Much appreciated. Now someone just needs to put it on the wiki and we're gold: Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2: Sega's Official Player's Guide
Didn't take long to spot a mistake. Page 16. GHZ2 is the one act of Green Hill where you can't get two hundred rings.
Had this guide - it was awesome. Loved that it had detailed maps and secrets for both the 16-bit and 8-bit titles that were out at the time.
The 90's-ness that oozes off the pages is fun. "three free Sonics" reminds me of the days when an extra life was referred to as getting "another man" and stuff like that.
Agreed. I enjoyed the artwork in it as well. My favorite part is the last two pages with the Sonic merchandise. I wanted ALL of it back in the day. Especially that Letterman jacket. :v:/>
Pages 96 and 97 are the wrong way around in the PDF, by the way. This book has a really impressive number of mistakes and glaring omissions in it. I'm only halfway through and I've found a dozen.
It's weird how the writer thought half the Sonic 2 Game Gear bosses were actual animals, and not robots. And called the Scrambled Egg boss "Robo-Sonic" instead of the name from the manual (US/EU manual = Silver Sonic, JP manual = Mecha Sonic).
In the Sonic 3 guide, Knuckles has a heavy Rastafarian accent, mon. I guess they saw dreads and assumed Jamaican?
I have this guide still in the shrink wrap. It came as a bonus from an ebay sale. Now I can see whats inside. Thanks :v:
Nice job! Fix those page numbers and I can get this on the wiki. Or rather, I can get it on the server ready for the wiki, but someone has to fix the UploadLocal extension first (hint hint)
A sugestion... I use this to compress the pdf files https://smallpdf.com/ ... works like a charm... and has other tools also... you have a limit of two operations per hour, but works great...
Cool, I'll look into it. The original PDF is approx. 3.5 GB. I used lossless compression to bring it down to 448MB.
It will take some time to upload it (because of the 448MB Size) ... but I've made a test and I managed to compressed it to just 58MB...
Fixed the page order for 96 and 97. Also fixed page 14 by rotating it a little. New Google Drive link is in the original post. I also checked out SmallPDF but it resulted in some quality loss and was kinda blurry. I can post that version too if there is any interest in it. />
