So I don't see this on the site, and in the purpose of keeping old things from not dropping off the face of the Earth, I present the Sonic Heroes Puzzle game that used to be on SEGA's website. Have fun with it or something.

EDIT: Uh...Don't know why the media tags are there, just copy and paste the URL.

I was shifting through some Japanese sites awhile back and came across a couple that were covering the Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Birthday Party Anniversary Exhibition that took place at Joypolis back in June 2011.

They were the fallowing:

As I was looking look through them, I notice in one the photographs showcasing the concept art for all the Sonic games, a concept drawing of Marble Zone which looked a lot like the early prototype Marble Zone screenshot that was published in many magazines.

Posted Image

Now unless my memory is playing tricks on me, I don't think we've ever covered this on Sonic Retro. I just don't remember seeing that concept drawing of Marble Zone anywhere before up until now.

Ohhhh very interesting! I don't recall seeing the two on the left side either, they look to be in the same style as some other S2 concept art we have seen.

Edit: and it's impossible to tell, but on the bottom right corner, under the Marble Zone art looks like Bridge Zone concept art maybe?

I think we have a very blurry shot of the Sky Sanctuary-looking one on the top left, but the one below is new

The two $600+ backers should just have her do Sonic CD levels. There, everyone wins. :v:/>/>/>

god awful US Soundtrack.

You bite your Goddamn tongue.

The only themes from the US version I like are the end of act theme (which sounds more Sonic than the JP one) and the boss theme, but that's not to say I prefer it to the JP one, they're just different. The rest though, no.

Hah! I'm the opposite. I almost exclusively prefer the US soundtrack, but the end of act and boss theme are two of the few exceptions.

Oh, I'm tempted to print that thing out and clip the coupon. And yep! I remember when games were STUPID expensive, especially when you factor in 20 years of inflation. I think the most expensive game I ever got was Star Fox 64 for $79.99. At least it came with the Rumble Pak...

EDIT: Yep, according this tool, $69.99 for Sonic 3 in 1994 would equate to $110.28 today.

Sorry not sorry for the shameless plugging, but is this common? Does it happen on hardware or is it just because it's a ROM hack?

Oh... oh god, that fake box art. It looks like they zoomed in on the US Spinball cover and pasted a horribly drawn "3" hand.

I think that that's basically this:

Quote

WECHNIA SIGHTING!!

According to Starwolf UK: "I got one of those character swap monitors (so I was espio the cpu was knuckles while before it was vice versa) and just before it expired I initiated the boss battle. For some reason it swaped the characters but not the palettes leaveing knuckles with the espio palette"

w00t. This is actually a fairly common bug with Chaotix.

Sonic-Cult

Not sure if it happens on the actual hardware, but it's a result of somthing messing up in with the swap-character monitor.

I thought it might be a hack. Dario's hack made it's way into an IGN video then.

Something tiny that no one's going to care about ever.

But a long time a go, I was farting around with Shadow the Hedgehog by trying to get it's debugger to show up. The game has two configuration files (nukkoro.ini and nukkoro2.ini), the latter is for stages but the former is for the overall game. In the former configuration file, you can choose the build of the game, who's debugging it, enable logs (OSREPORT?), etc. When you specify that the game is a DEVELOP build, the game will boot up, show a loading logo, and then seem to get stuck at a black screen. For years, I assumed that the game had crashed but I'm starting to think otherwise.

Here's a log, which has FileMon outputs and some OSREPORT outputs:

At the last line, it seems to stop at the black screen. But there are no error messages of any kind that say that the game has crashed. Usually from what I see, if there is a crash OSREPORT will tell you and dump some addresses for you to check out. But it doesn't happen here. The framerate counter on Dolphin is maintained and doesn't go to 0.

I did some looking in the DOL file (the game's executable), and it seems that the game has support for a keyboard and mouse connected to the second controller port. I was thinking that maybe the game is awaiting a command or inputs from the second controller port - but for a keyboard or mouse. In fact, as previously stated, this game's debugger uses GINDOWS, which is kinda like this pseudo Windows GUI. The graphics show mouse cursors and other things you could find along that as well.

However, I lack a Gamecube keyboard/mouse and Dolphin lacks support for those types of controllers, although one person if I recall was working on it since PSO works online with Dolphin. But I wanted to mention this somewhere because there's still a possibility.

I just bought an Atgames Classic Genesis console (you know the one that will actually play cartridges). I have found that it will play sonic 3, and sonic and knuckles separate from each other. It absolutely refuses to let you combine them. Whats really bazaar to me is if you plug sonic 2 in to sonic and knuckles it will play just fine. It even allows me to play the unlimited 3D sphere stages if I plug a non-sonic cart in. Anyone know why this is?
