On the normal version, it goes up by 8, before going back to 0 then down by 8, and returns up and loops. In the pitch up always version, it'll carry on going up and loop around. $00 and $80 pitch are the same. Just a quick note to people thinking I'm going to reduce the message time and implement a time-amount penalty instead.. I'm not. The point of the hack is the whole penalty for getting hit or whatever. Those that don't like it, well, sorry, but deal with it. :U v1.2 will be out soon, once I get certain things sorted and working. Found a lovely bug I need to squash that nobody's mentioned yet. Oh, and Perfect ranks are becoming Platinum ranks, as someone managed to beat some of them. c_c
Could it possibly be this one that pops up on almost every soft reset? Spoiler And if you do fix this you should replace it with Omochao saying "You just reset the game!".
The font Omochao says with looks like what I made, at least everything matches with mine :P This hack is so evil, I gave up after a little while haha
It's actually one I found in another game's VRAM (another console entirely) that fit nicely, so I gave it a shadow and boom. :P Guess you managed to match up perfectly with someone else from yesteryear.
Silly question, am I the only one who expected time over to kick in at 10 minutes? After all, if you spend so much time that you hit 10 minutes, most likely you aren't going to achieve even a bronze rank at all...
Hehe, that just shows how little variation one can have within 8x8 tile doing certain kind of readable fonts ^^
Nope you're not the only one. I was like "Shit, I'm about to get a game over!" and then the minutes rolled over to 10. :v: This hack is so evil. xD I gave up after I kept collecting rings that were in a row. I tried playing GHZ 1 and gave up. Then I picked GHZ 3 and once again gave up.
This is why I made this hack. My work is done. Speaking of, just got a few little bits to do, and then v1.2 will be out.
That was hilarious. I was halfway through, when he was at that loop in act 3 and had to go to bathroom. It was hilarious but I know there had to be more to it. And there was. And then there was yet more. And of course that checkpoint glitch just was icing on the cake!
*Fixed. This game should be called either, Sonic 1 : Homo Chao Edition or Sonic 1 : Screw with your mind Edition. I think this guy hates you for life for this hack lol, I think he literaly died inside about 5 times too. Its crazy what a rom hack can make you do =P. When I get more time to play this I will murder this hack and then kindly ask for more.
Ok, that's it, incoming butthurt message: I AM SICK OF THESE BUTTONS! If I remember correctly, I already told you this, but now it's not only being incredibly frustrating, but also unfair. Labyrinth Zone 3 - I was minding my own business, avoiding any rings, spikes and enemies, when I suddenly saw that freaking button object. Why is that a big deal? Because the game counts it as a bad thing and OmoChao's fuck-you-meter will increase! So I made it to Robotnik, didn't touch anything but buttons (no rings, no enemies, etc.) and what do I get at the shield before the capsule? Gold rank. Fuck. Only because I was forced to press 7 buttons in order to advance. Don't get me wrong, challenge is a good thing, as already mentioned a couple of times, but this is just going way too far. And not even the ridiculous long jingle I am forced to sit through every time isn't what bothers me most. No, I'm kinda upset about because you said yourself "I wanted to keep the hack playable". Great, very playable to be forced to get OmoChao say stuff. That little flying guy is meant to be a punishment whenever you make a mistake, but player shouldn't be punished for doing something he must do in order to advance! That goes against any logic of video gaming. I hope you rethink about the so-called final decision you gave me last time and seriously think about making this hack more enjoyable. The unfairly given frustration in this hack in the later part of the game (SYZ+) goes just way too far.
butthurt is butthurt There are certain rings you have to get, among other things. I'm not putting an omochao-free zone over every button, nor removing them or the message. Later levels increase the challenge, and increase the waiting time. You can see the best/ranking scores. Don't like it? Fast forward or don't play, or sit through it like a man. Buttons are a general object, hence why they were included, otherwise Labyrinth and others could be completed with absolute 0 easily. It's meant to get harder as it gets on, and there are alternate routes that require less button pushing at others, you just have to try and find out which are which. I'll say it again, deal with it.
I really don't see how people say "You say it's still playable but then bla bla". Fact of the matter is, it IS still playable. It forces you to rethink your routes and really THINK abotu what way you go, and if you've played Sonic 1 to death make you really try to remember which way had less object. Course I've had many a "FFFFFFFFFFFFFF" moment but it's been fun and a laugh for the most part. Unplayable would be a message for every change of animation, like "You started walking!", "You started running!" or "You jumped!". But as it is it's perfectly playable. Can't wait for the next revision. One question though, what's the difference between the different coloured protective shields? Just the rank it was obtained from? Or is there something special to them.
Spring Yard Act 3 has problems under Gens/GS and Genesis Plus GX (Wii) in this hack, it seems. And yes the pallettes really did get that screwed up as I mentioned earlier...
If I had the sound driver running purely on z80, I'd do it. :P As for the palette problem, I'll look into it. It's one I can't seem to reproduce.
