I swear to Christ I came up with an idea for Sonic in an insurance commercial like three or four years ago. I too had a dorky grin on my face.
What is this I don't even, but I have seen this with my very own two eyes. Interesting choices of music. The latter can easily be attributed to Sonic 4 (which is strange in it's own right). I am fuming that I have not seen this commercial LIVE. I'm tearing up because Sonic is relevant to the real world again. I would love me some Sonic vs. Gecko (in B4 Gex!)
Sonic must be very drunk, cause Progressive Flo actually looked vaguely attractive through his vision.
What do you mean "changed later on?" Standalone Sonic 3 always has that same invincibility music even in all of the collection ports on PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, PS3 etc. The only version of Sonic 3 that changes the music is Sonic & Knuckles locked onto it, and the reason it changes is because it wouldn't make sense to have two invincibility themes within the same game so it just goes with the S&K one.
Next up, AoStH Sonic putting the moves on Erin E-surance. I'm a little interested that they don't actually mention the name "Sonic" in the ad; you'd think Sega would want that for brand recognition. Then again, I'd expect them to steal voice clips from other contexts for him, too, and I'm glad they didn't do that. I do like Sonic running over the logo at the end a la the "SEGA!" call. You might get more attention here.
I love this to death. Reminds me of the old Honey Nut Cheerios commercial. It's good to see Sonic popular enough to do ads again. That said, an amazing commercial like this only leaves us wanting more sightings of the blue blur. Here's a good ol' list of things Sonic needs to add to his commercial schedule: Get "powerful pain relief" for all the rolling he does Hey, Sonic's "Got Milk" too, right? "I'm Sonic the Hedgehog and I lost 15 lbs. on Nutrisystem!... Don't forget to use this diet in tandem with healthy exercise, such as supersonic running!" Mystic Ruins hotels and resorts + - alternatively, "Super Sneakers Resorts: the luxury-included vacation" Purchase auto insurance for that car he drove once Find the best deals on transcontinental flights (private plane?) You're suggesting a blue hedgehog might not be recognizable. Besides, Sonic's name does flash up on the ticker. And I laughed out loud when it did.
@Blivsey: OK, true. But still, I would think the marketing people would've, I dunno, requested the humans not refer to Sonic with only pronouns. It just seems weird to me.
I've gotta say, I really like the animation of Sonic in this. It looks really well done and, even though he's in a place with real humans, he doesn't look out of place. Not to mention the cartoony, Unleashed-styled versions of the humans in the end. It was all very nice... wow am I really talking about how well made a commercial was? As others have said, it's nice to see him in something relevant outside of gaming again.
So Eggman's Classic&Adventure design is how Sonic and Co. look at him and 06 is how he really looks? :v: I kid... I kid... Also that Sonic 3 music....
I dunno about you guys, but I was cringing like a motherfucker and getting embarrassment shivers the whole time. But to each their own.
I genuinely don't see why, Sonic being whored in unrelated products isn't news, if anything it's like comming back to the 90's. The only thing off about it, is that the product isn't something targeted thoward kids, but then again people who have some kind of association with Sonic nowadays aren't just the kids anymore.
Probably that's why they used Sonic 3 music. The commercial is targeted for those who were 20 years ago playing Sonic.
Then it would've made more sense to use the classic design, those 20 year old people could have some reservations about the modern AKA "GREEEEEN EYES" design
And to spawn 200 pages of "IS SEGA THINKING ABOUT BRINGING CLASSIC BACK OMG" discussion? Wouldn't take that risk.
The general population doesn't give a damn and please as much I love the classic design the "greeeeen eyes" thing is just a single guy moaning (it's better not to refer his name) blown out of propotion. Most of it was just mocking in the end, the sad thing about it is that the genuine complains (mainly regarding Sonic 4, when the debate about classic/modern was more heated) are mixed into it most of the time....
