Art company Cook & Becker and SEGA announce today that they are working on an official Sonic the Hedgehog art and design book. The book – made for Sonic's 25th anniversary this year – will be the first stand-alone art book ever made of the iconic video game character. The book will cover the entire history of Sonic the Hedgehog and includes design sketches, official character illustrations, in-game art, pixel art, rare promotional art and game box art. It also features never-before published artwork and contains interviews with the key designers and artists of the beloved video game character such as Yuji Naka, Takashi Iizuka, Kazuyuki Hoshino and Yuji Uekawa.

The Sonic the Hedgehog: 25th Anniversary art book is expected to be available for pre-order worldwide October/November 2016 and will ship early 2017. The book will be available as a Standard Edition and a special Collector's Edition. More details and images of the book will be released in the near future.

"We're very excited to be working with SEGA on this official art book for one of video gaming's most iconic characters. Sonic is such a great character with such a vibrantly designed world", says Maarten Brands of Cook & Becker. "Everyone that has seen our fine art prints and books knows that Cook & Becker is always a 100% committed to bring an outstanding level of quality to everything we work on. And with the Sonic the Hedgehog art book we want to raise the bar for coffee table art books on video games and showcase everything that is great about Sonic."

Cook & Becker worked previously with SEGA on a Sonic the Hedgehog art product with this official print by Paul Veer.

This should have been part of the Sonic Mania collectors edition.

Considering how much Cook & Becker's stuff usually costs and how big this book looks, I don't think the price would be that appealing anymore if it was a part of it. :v:

I'm in love. I really enjoy books like this (I got the Battle Network one and I thoroughly enjoyed looking though it and reading all the commentary by the creators and artists). As soon as we can preorder, I'll be doing so.

Wincing at how much this thing might cost but I've been wanting something like this for a long time. Can't wait.

Sonic CD sketch on the cover says all I need to know. Gonna be pricey but this is something I've wanted in forever.

Loving the sound of this, and I'm especially looking forward to seeing what the special edition version looks like.

Well damn, and here I told myself I wouldn't buy any more artbooks after blowing too much on the Rockman Zero complete works... Well, better make some room for this on the bookshelf!

Anyone got a rough idea of price? Prepared to pay as much as it costs tbh but can't hurt to prepare the wallet for dents in advance ;)

How much will it potentially be?

Sweet! Maybe we'll finally get the missing artwork for the Mystic Cave Zone mouse. And one of the Sonic Chaos bosses was missing from the manual, right?

Crossing my fingers for design sketches of Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles' Mecha Sonics.

Well the only other art book they put out is this Killzone one, which is $50 for the standard edition and $130 for the collector's edition (which comes in special packaging and includes a hand numbered giclee print of concept art).

So expect it to be around that price.

Awesome. I was thinking last week that if others like Mega Man had art books, Sonic would be a shoo-in. $50~ doesn't sound bad at all either.
