Whatever happened to drx's Sonic 1 news that he hinted about in 2009?

Interesting, the title screen seems to be centered, unlike the final version.

Unless that's because of the TV used, maybe the "press start button" isn't the only thing they screwed up.

you'll note the "© SEGA" text is missing too, possibly due to screen cutoff.

On old tube tv's it could just be cutting off the right side due to overscan, but I would not be suprised if that actually was centred and then messed up like the press start text was.

There's much less separation between the logo and the edges of the screen, so it's just being zoomed in.

The title screen does appear to be zoomed in, especially noticable in the video where the camera is actually quite a bit further away from the screen. However, I'm sure playing my Mega Drive on an old CRT limits the screen size anyway. I reember plugging Sonic Mega Collection in on a '32, and noticing how much more of the screen was viewable.

Its just over-scan, all consoles, TV programs, or shit did this before the LCD era, hell, even the NES took advantage of it, if you played any NES game on an emulator you will see that the right part of the screen constantly glitches on platformer games like Megaman, or Mario.

Still this made me remember how awesome it looks to play my Mega Drive II on my CRT screen sad.png ...so smooth, and colourful.

My Mega Drive was always plugged into the aerial socket, so it never looked amazing, especially compared to how the games look on Mega Collection played on a component cable'd Wii. I did notice what you mentioned about the NES games screen messing up. On SMB3 on the Wii, a whole bar of left side of the screen is a single colour, and I always assumed it was because of the output or something. I'm not very technical.

Actually, most Mega Drive games tend to look uglier, the crisper they look...

Yeah, but RF has a lot of noise... Composite is probably the best way to go with a MD.

Yeah, it would be re-cockulous to go with RF. In fact, I had a CRT TV with a S-video connection with my SNES and it looked gorgeous.

RGB Represent! THE best way to get an SD picture on anything, and the Mega Drive is no exception to that. There actually used to be a well known bug with RGB that shifts the entire screen like a couple of pixels to the left, but the boost in Colour quality was just soo worth it.

I could never find an alternative cable for my MD, and back when I was 8, I didn't really think to plug the MD into the T.v using another cable to improve the picture. I remember when I got Mega Collection in 2004, I usually played it on 50htz, but switched to 60 when I realised my TV supported it. I literally wet myself when the 60htz version of Sonic 1 popped up, with it's increased speed, moving clouds, waving underwater sections, and fixed spike issues.

Back when I had my megadrive I had to live of an antenna cable, but it's forgiven being how hard it was back then to get anything scart related on an oldish tv, I don't think anything was until around the sonic 3 era, hard to remember.

It's one reason why I originally had good fun with the first gamecube sonic collection, nice sharp yet not completely eye bleeding sharp images over scart/rgb, One thing I have always disliked about pc megadrive emulation is that you have to rely on a filter unless you want the image looking like it was made out of lego, playing on a SDtv is much nicer for me.
