Hello everyone! So laely there have some small misconceptions about the potential of making original Mania stages, glad to say that they are completely possible.

So I would like to introduce you to Aurora Garden Zone. :)

Please note, that this is still very much a work in progress. There are some things with at least the tools we have now that aren't completely possible and one of those things is backgrounds. Sprite assets are completely replaceable. Another thing that is probably possible, but at least for my level isn't- is bringing over level assets from other levels like enemies and other entities.

I will be updating another fourm post that I will post here on a later date over time but I will be going over some simple things. So in short, custom levels are possible but they are basically glorified repaints of the already existing level. I mean, I'm sure if you are a reliable programmer you could do a lot more but this is what I will be going over.

>How to make a custom tile set and Custom Color Palettes
>How to use the Maniac Editor (The level editor for Sonic Mania)
>Working the collision and some tips and tricks to making level design.

For now, here have some previews for Aurora Garden. Please watch the video and please know that this is still far from finished, as I am still replacing a bunch of Green Hill tiles atm. I just wanted to show that custom levels that aren't just crappy recolors of Green Hill with horrible layouts are possible. Lets kill the Green Hill recolor menace once and for all
:v:

Oh, also. Act 2 is will be a thing. Also an early WIP.

I'll keep the topic here as I wanna use it as a space for mini tutorial as well when I get to writing them instead of keeping it as just some reply. Thanks for the direction though :)

I haven't really been keeping up that much with the recent developments in Mania's modding scene, but I have one question that has been on my mind ever since I saw the first sprite swaps in Mania on YT.

Since Mania and Sonic CD (2011) are both running on the same engine, would it be possible import both sonic and tails sprites from Mania to Sonic CD, along with Mania's smooth sprite rotation? IMHO, it would make a gorgeous game look even better and more vibrant! If someone can do it, please try it!

I am unsure and not familar with Sonic CD modding. (If there is even any interest in it) but if the proper tools were made for sprite and animation replacement it should be more than possible. Although, isn't sprite rotation an engine thing?

If you want this to be a separate thread for your project, that's cool, but if this turns into a general Q&A thread (*cough*JigenD*cough*)... isn't that what the Mania Hacking thread is for? Either way, this thread belongs in the E&RE subforum.

I don't know that anyone here has been thinking that level mods are impossible, considering that Maniac Editor is designed to do exactly that.

Oh I didn't mean that. IMO this is very much related with the topic: My question is mostly related with similarities between Mania and both Sonic CD and Sonic 1 & 2 (iOS and Androic versions). All share the Retro Engine AFAIK, and in my view it'd be great if the resources (sprites, objects, textures, whatever) could be made to be mutually exchangeable.

Oh, defiantly. Thank you for the help. May separate them if tutorials aren't already existing. At least for awhile, I was seeing a lot of people were putting down the fact of original levels. At the same time a lot of people weren't trying. With also SHC2017, at first anyways was very weary of the Mania stuff at first. There seemed to be a misconception that stuff like this wasen't possible yet.
Thank you for the help (sorry im new here and to all of the threads. So I thought I would go to general to be safe :)
